Comments (13)I'll tell you what... My husband and I are trying to buy our first piece of property. It will be a good piece, wherever it is and you can bet your bottom dollar that maybe a year or two after I get my garden started, I'm going to start raising honeybees. I think if you have the space so your neighbours aren't overwhelmed by an increase in bee population (small cookie-cutter houses, lots of kids around, sprinklers, possible stings, etc.) then learning about and then raising bees is a real service to the local farming community. Not only that, but you can charge people to "baby sit" a colony of honey bees for a bit just for pollination purposes, so long as their garden is organic, no pesticides, etc. :) Why not remind people of the service and importance of bees?...See MoreDoes anyone else trim ends off grape clusters?
Comments (3)It varies with cultivar. Flame has a very long cluster and is sort of hour glass shape. I trim off a large amount there, 40-50%. Summer Royal isn't as badly shaped and gets a smaller trimming. Princess only on a few clusters and crimson none. The other reason is that some of those tip berries never ripen properly, less color and sour. Instead of thinning off so many clusters I now leave more clusters that are trimmed. On a few clusters I even trim off the tips of the upper "arms" of the cluster. Anywhere there's a concentration of berries on the end of a long arm. I'm not sure if this will open up tight clusters or make the remaining cluster tighter. I'm hoping it will have no effect or open. Comments (19)I have been eating large tomatoes for quite some time now. I think I may be running out of fresh tomatoes in about a week or so. Plenty of Cherokee Purples this year. I'm in North Jersey in Morris County. I have been fortunate to buy a house that has a terraced garden which gets full sun. I mean full sun until it gets dark. I gave plenty away and froze plenty and still have some in the fridge and some on my kitchen counter. I'm glad to say I'm not in your company this year. Last year was just as good. Comments (42)I wish I never bought the damn thing. I tried to register at this site with the user name Liebhate, which pretty much says it all. I purchased a CS 1611 30-inch unit on 1/24/12 and I have had nothing but trouble, though so far not much solid ice in the refrigerator section. Except when the defrost crashed and the tube that delivers condensation somewhere froze solid. The service man fixed that. My problems are in the freezer section, where the defrost unit has never worked. I am on the 4th non-working thermostat. The freezer section is too cold, and the E3 error signal has been up there forever. Every time work has to be done, I spend two days defrosting the whole thing, wiping lots of water off the kitchen floor. I have tossed at least $600 worth of frozen food, maybe more. This has happened 6 times. Now it is out of warranty and my problem is that although there is no charge for the replacement parts they send, I must pay all labor costs. Yesterday I paid $180 to install another part that didn't work. I called Liebherr to report that the part they sent was flawed and wouldn’t work, and to complain about the high cost to me. I have never before considered using improper language with a customer service representative, but the bored condescension of the arrogant lout I spoke with tempted me to reply with the usual advice, but I refrained. My recommendation: Don’t ever buy a Liebherr refrigerator, and warn all your friends not to, as well....See More
