A Simple Christmas Table
Comments (10)Lynn...thank you for the sweet comments about my DR. Honestly, when I think of SW living...yours would be MY first choice! Love your home and all its decor. party music...I guess you can say I was in the Right Place at the Right Time...to pay those prices!! Thanks for the compliments. yachter..thank you..glad you 'Love Them' !! lol Luvs..thank you and glad you liked my 'Gold Touches' !! I don't use too much of it..but for Christmas I think it's special. punk...thank you, I'm feeling much better...I've been catching up on some rest now...and it does the body some good. I think we all burn the candle at both ends this time of year. Don't you go feeling you have to 'redo' your table...I think it was just lovely as is. Betty! I'm putting 'The Pot' on for soup. No time is too late! Bring on those bowls!! The centerpiece is actually three small pots of poinsiettas that I bought on clearance at CTS for $1 ea. They have really nice pinecones, greenery and berries mixed in them. I just stuck them in a long metal planter, and added some gold ribbon in between the base of them. Glad you liked it. I think my family gave me those table gifts, cause I was the one who Always did Christmas at my house and they were the guests!! lol jane...See MoreChristmas dinner ideas
Comments (48)Faron, the Nytimes had a fascinating article about what food items people do Google searches on by state. Interesting how many of them in the West I had never even heard of! Some I can do without, like Snickers salad. Speaking of salad, two thumbs up for the warm lentil salad I posted about. We had a party last night and that was one of the items. It was excellent. Comments (97)Christmas Eve is our big family gathering, we include a dinner for 20. We serve buffet style, but sit at dining tables. (I discovered that 20 is the perfect number: 10 at the DR, 10 in the sunroom at two folding banquet tables) We went with a simple dinner menu this year: beef tenderloin, mashed potatoes (two trays from costco, they were great, and pretty in my new red-orange Dansk pan) and a simple Chistmas salad my aunt made. Elegant! Appetizers were made/brought by others: just shrimp w/sauce, an artichoke dip with crackers, and my kids always make the classic Lipton soup dip. Dessert was the most complicated: DH made his mom's Walnut glory cake which calls for 9 count'em 9 separated eggs. But it's not called "glory" for nothing! Our Scandinavian tradition calls for rice pudding which, for the first time, came from my kitchen. It was a tad soupy, but delicious. And folks brought cookies and candy. Christmas morning DH made our traditional "Eggs McDH" and mimosas. We forgot to make the fruit medley, but that's okay. Then we went to my folks' and my brothers met us up there, for baked French toast (made with Challah, best French toast ever!) and bacon. Christmas night is our quiet intimate dinner at home of leftovers, at the dining room table with the party dinnerware. Me, I felt like the Very Hungry Caterpillar: I ate "one nice green leaf and felt much better". Literally, I had the salad with no dressing lol! Ahhh....See MoreChristmas dinner ideas
Comments (34)I'm paying attention because I need ideas, too. We have done the appetizer thing for a few years because we have people coming and going during the day so it's hard to plan for a sit-down meal. Also, I don't have a table big enough for the 12 people who might be here at one time. I agree that the appetizer thing, constantly pulling stuff out of the oven in an attempt to have a "steady stream" of apps, can get to be a pain. What I should do is say "we are eating at 2:00" (or whatever) instead of telling people to show up whenever they want......See Moreamylou321
