Last minute gifts

Ordinarily, going to Walmart on the 24th is not a good idea. But I needed some Diet Coke, so I rode over on my tricycle. It was unbelievably crowded even in the morning, the parking lot was almost full, but I got my space right near the door where I chain my cycle to the light post.

They had plenty of cashiers so I only was in line maybe 5 minutes. But what struck me while I was there were the people checking out the gifts. They had not been marked down, so it appeared people were actually buying gifts at the last minute, not taking advantage of a sale.

I've done that long ago, now I make the season a little more same and enjoyable by getting gifts earlier. I can imagine that people shopping later today probably had to wait longer and park further.

I sure did appreciate being able to park near the door, instead of out in the boonies.

I get it about the parking Lucille. Sure makes it easier, when riding a bike/trike. ;)

I haven't been to any store since Thursday. Popped in to ALDI for a German Christmas Stollen and some chocolate, on my way home from getting the cancer taken off.

I am enjoying the peace and quiet here at home.

There are many last minute shoppers. I may go just to see if there are sales. I try to do my shopping beginning in Oct/Nov

Oh how I wish I'd done this all these years! It would be wonderful to read about past Christmas' times, especially now all my kids are grown with their own children! The only thing I've done the last few years is keep a list of gifts given to family and friends, as my memory stinks and I don't want to repeat gifts. As of last year, I also am keeping a list of where I've stored stuff. With things scattered around closets in the house, bins under my bed, bins in garage and storage shed, I now want to know exactly WHAT is WHERE. This year I am going to list and photograph my Christmas decorations as I unpack stuff, and am getting pictures of new purchases of course. As you know I take pictures of my house decorated, but I'd rather have better organized photos of collections and ornaments. (Maybe if I look at my photos this time NEXT year, I'll do less impulsive buying. I love Christmas things too much, LOL. Hard to resist.) I am going to suggest to my grown kids to think about starting journals while they still have young ones! hugs, Karen

My dearest father would wait until the last possible moment to do his shopping every single year. It was his self appointed task to buy all kinds of 'Santa presents', games, silly toys, special candies, anything that he thought would amuse us and keep us occupied.

He would come back whistling, lock himself up in the spare room with wrapping paper and tape, absolutely filled with holiday cheer.

He was such a dear, sweet man. It was so difficult to find any smidgen of joy around my mother, but he managed to generate a warmth in the house during Christmas that we were all able feel the glow.

Hubs and I went to Walmart this afternoon. I needed aluminum foil, milk, orange juice and coffee creamer. It was packed, buggies loaded with all sorts of toys and gifts. I think a lot of people have to wait on their employer to hand over a Xmas bonus in order to do their shopping, or had to wait for payday. My Walmart closed at 6PM and will open 6AM Monday. Good I'm glad those people get at least 1 day a year off.

I attempted Costco yesterday about 2:00....ummm, I just kept on driving by. TONS of people and cars waiting to turn in the lot with lots of cars driving around looking for a spot to park. I ran back right before they closed and was in and out in literally 15 mins.

I waited over a month and a half for an Amazon purchase for one of my exchange students. didn't want her to be less one gift than everyone else to open in the morning so today at work I bought her a small gift to open tomorrow from the hospital gift shop. Got home and found an Amazon package waiting...but it was from one of our first exchange students in Spain....not the thing I was expecting. so, glad I picked up the little gift today.

Tonight I ordered 2 gift cards from Amazon. They're going to deliver them to my home between 10pm and midnight. That's low stress shopping.

The shopping was done. Dh decided he wanted to go to Kroger this afternoon so we went. Wasn't too bad. Plenty of checkers. People were friendly.

My father always liked shopping on Christmas Eve when he was younger.

I ran into the grocery store for a few food items for dinner today and it was busy, but not absolutely crazy.

I did have to visit Kroger yesterday and it was uncomfortably busy. But like adellabedella noted, everyone was patient, friendly, in good spirit. The store clearly made the decision to bring on extra staff who donned elf hats and mingled amongst the aisles offering assistance. It was a very festive atmosphere!
