what causes leaves to turn slightly yellow?
Comments (4)Agree with gumby - the most common cause is too much water. Can't control the rain you may get but you can cut back on watering and make sure the plants are in well draining soil. Without more details or pic of the plants in question, that would be the best guess. Dave...See MoreWhat's causing my blueberry leaves to turn reddish brown?
Comments (4)Well they were probably not exposed to a lot of light, the redness is a sign of stress. Maybe slowly expose them to the sun. Assume they are greenhouse grown and need acclimation to the outside environment. It's not that unusual, all should be fine. Increase sun exposure daily. You should do this with all new plants. Start them in shade and increase direct sun exposure over a 2 week period. Maybe now leave them in the shade a couple days, then one hour, direct sun next day 2 etc. Everything else you did seems proper, so my guess is acclimation, or possibly cold, but that looks like sun damage to me. And I agree pot looks dry, but so do mine as the top layer of these mixes often dry, but are very wet an inch down, so really do not need water. Keep it moist not wet or dry. If after 2 days in shade, the redness decreases, it was too quick a transition to sun exposure. If still red, it may be another problem....See MoreWhat Causes Bottom Leaves to Turn Yellow
Comments (7)Endless summer hydrangeas are macrophyllas. IOW those who usually bloom on old wood. They, however, are mutants who bloom not only on old wood, but new wood. They became popular for folks not only to extend the bloom time, but the zones in which a macrophylla could be grown and reliably bloom. If your's isn't blooming yet, it is probably because you pruned off the old wood it would be blooming from. Another reason for low bloom response is the buds set on the old wood were frozen out in a hard winter. So, if you had severe weather last winter, they may not have bloomed on the old wood anyway. We wait until spring to prune our Endless summer and any other macrophylla to see how much old wood survived. On our standard bushes, we don't expect bloom. On the Endless Summer we expect some bloom when the new wood is mature enough. You should be getting some bloom later on your new wood....See MoreApricot tree leaves turning light green and developing spots
Comments (10)I'll preface this by saying I'm far from an expert, but knowing you live in Utah has me thinking this may be a soil pH issue. Most of the soils in the west have a high pH (at least greater than 7, some at 8 or even 8.5) Apricots are somewhat tolerant to a high pH but they don't especially care for it. Once the pH gets past a certain point, they can get iron chlorosis because they can no longer get iron from the soil. As for why now...I dunno. Was there something different about the weather this year? Overwatering (or too much rain) is a contributing factor. Or if it was very dry and you had to water the tree, the pH levels in the water can be very high as well and may add to the problem. If that's the case there's a bunch of ways to treat the problem. Your local extension office is probably where to go to get your soil test done, and you could perhaps ask what people in your area have had success with to lower pH. In my case, I could add sulfur and other amendments as much as I wanted, but my irrigation water had so many bicarbonates in it, the only thing that worked was adding sulfuric acid to the water and making it pH 5.0 before irrigating. Good luck! Let us know what you find out! Even if I'm wrong, I'd love to learn what this is and how you resolved it....See Morenish11an
