Eucalyptus and Nothing Grows?!
Comments (53)Came here during some research I'm trying to do on this subject because of some potential plans I have on planting one of a few eucalyptus species, and while there's a lot of good information/discourse here on variables concerning affected plants, mulch quality, effect on soil, and other factors that may affect plants such as water and root competition, I'm kind of noticing a pattern here and elsewhere: There's a lot of lumping eucalyptus into one umbrella category...Guys, there's like 700 something species in this genus; they are not all created equal. I think that also may be partially why there seems to be so much debate over the subject, two different people could be very well talking about two different species. I'm not saying everyone has to be a friggin botanist over it, but it really is helpful to know what species any given person is talking about. Maybe then we can start to notice a pattern with one given variety or another. Just my two cents. As an aside, I kind of think climate may have a non negligible part to play. I could definitely see these chemicals hanging around in the soil a lot differently in a more arid environment with lots of organic matter build up versus a wet rainy tropical environment where everything either leaches away or decays as fast as you can blink at it....See MoreSigh... I love blue...
Comments (3)There's nothing quite as cool-looking(temperaturewise) as BLUE flowers. I grew Phacelia a few years ago, best blue i ever saw, next to cornflowers. The bell-shaped blue flowers with icy-white anthers were beautiful, and stirred up images of cooler weather. They do have a short bloom time, hot weather just about stops the show, cutting back helps somewhat. Give 'em a try, i believe there are 2 or 3 varieties. Good luck, and enjoy....See MoreMore fall color - it ain't the Smokey Mountains folks, but....
Comments (5)Just finished looking a ALL the pictures and enjoyed each and every one!!!! I did the slide show, but probably should have put more seconds in between. I so enjoyed the one picture of the rocks. The suttle shades of color were amazing. I can see that you are very much newly weds! LOL Makes me wonder where the spark went from my 46 + years of marriage. I think there is a tiny flame still flickering somewhere. LOL Connie...See MoreAnyone else fall out of love with their build?
Comments (16)Yes, yes, yes, I have certainly fallen out of love with the build process (but, at the same time am really falling in love with what's finally starting to look like a home). Our tile install is taking forever -- we're on week 9 I think, and I'm only having three and a half baths and a laundry room tiled. I admit that the glass tile in the master bath isn't easy to install, but they just started that this week. I have no idea why the subway and octogon & dot tile took so long in the upstairs baths. I picked it because I thought it would be easy. It absolutely wore me out to visit the house and see mess up after mess up on the tile, or worse, to see no progress at all. The trim guy/cabinet maker is at the house too now, and he's working super fast and doing beautiful work. It's now fun again to track his progress nightly. I got so worn out on the build, that I've stepped out of the build process and am taking a "vacation" from it. For the next 8 weeks, DH is in charge of communicating with builder and subs. I just get to visit the house and tell DH what I like or dislike. We broke ground in October, were supposed to move in in May, and the most optimistic completion date is now early October....See Moreshaxhome (Frog Rock, Australia 9b)
