Card game ok? They may already have Uno and Skipbo but those are fun.

Can't really suggest unless we know what you have or are you looking to go buy some games? I still like Monopoly and Aggravation. Card games are a-plenty too. Used to play a lot of Scratch and a friend who would host us often at holidays always wanted to play Old Maid so that was played a lot and it can actually be fun.

We enjoy Yahtzee.

Tripoli is fun as is LRC. I like sequene but it is better played in quiet zone.

The neverending game of Monopoly. Or the card game version. I really enjoy the card game, quicker than Monopoly but we changed the rules to get 5 monopolies instead of 3 to win. 3 is too fast. New one I bought is Exploding Kittens, kind of like Old Maid but with other cards to cancel being killed, pass on your turn, look at the deck ahead of time and steal other players cards. Sorry is fun but only 4 can play at once. Risk is another fun game but long. Good card games are Hearts and Spades. One of my exchange students taught us a new version of gin rummy, you don't look at the cards you discard, they are stacked one on top of the other so you have to remember what was discarded or you pick up -50 points if you take them and can't lay anything down. Pictionary is also fun. People at work said Watch Ya Mouth is lots of fun, the game with the mouthguards, you try and say a phrase and the other person has to figure out what you're saying.

Apples to Apples is fun for all generations. And easy to learn.

I used to have an after-school program and Labyrinth was our favorite strategy/thinking game. Only four can play however. Clue was our favorite oldie but goodie.

My brother bought the family Ticket to Ride. Very fun!

In the previous game thread, a couple people recommended Ticket to Ride. I got it as a gift for family members, and they like it a lot. I got the Europe version since they are going to Europe. It's a little more expensive than most games, I paid $32, and I see it's much higher on Amazon now.

sushipup, side question about LCR. How large is the game and chips? I picked one up, but it is travel-game sized (4" container). Is there a larger-sized version? I was originally picturing poker sized chips.

This is not a board game, but all ages except for the very young can play it: Pictionary. A member of a team draws a card upon which is a word or phrase. He is allowed to say what category it falls in, but no more. He, then, draws/sketches on paper or chalk board and the team tries to guess the word/phrase. Meanwhile, a timer is running. To get a point, the team must discovery the correct word/phrase within the time limit.

After an agreed upon play period, for example, 1/2 hour, the team with the most points win. After the play period expires, play continues until each team has had equal number of turns.

The only LRC games I've seen are the small ones.

Thanks Kathy. The other thing that threw me off about LRC was some of the online pricing--up to $19.99. I couldn't see paying that for this little one; it was on sale for under $4 at Target, regularly about $8, I think. So I was thinking there must be a larger version out there.

We play a dice game called Farkle. It's sold at Barnes & Noble . We play with our daughters and partners and our grandaughter. It's under ten dollars . I'll have to find that LRC game for us to try . We love board games and cards so always looking for new suggestions too.

Aggravation is another great classic that suits all ages.

Oh my gosh. The BEST game is Balderdash. 12 years old is probably old enough. Some of best laughs of our family life have been with that game.

Farkle is a blast. ZERO skill involved, but some strategy (decision making about whether to roll again or not). And a lot of luck.

Bananagrams. We also have a great time playing Taboo as a family. Even the 12-year-olds can play because it involves words you can't say to get others on your team to say the right word.
