I've been happy with my HP Officejet 4500, but I don't recommend it for color printing unless you print in color frequently (2-3 times or more per week).

Yes. Color printers die if not used daily. I use a Brother Mono Laser. As cheap as it gets all in one.

If you need wireless networking, be sure to check before you buy. Not all printers are wifi and many are not Apple Air Print capable without the complication of adding drivers.

I had to make a decision so based on Brushstroke's recommended site I chose one that has been out a while the HP5530. It received many reviews that were good and fixes for common flaws. Other sources liked it too. Thanks to all of you.

That is good, Maggie. To be honest, I have had good luck with all of the HP printers I have purchased. The only printer ever had problems with was an Epson and the ink cartridges were nearly prohibitively expensive. I learned then to stick with HP; for one thing the HP ink cartridges are not too, too expensive.

during setup, don't allow auto updates from HP. Choose manual updates. HP tampered with millions of printers by blocking non-brand ink. HP confessed and is now offering a firmware fix but not before costing users $$$$$$$ to buy HP ink.

From re-reading this post I see HP is still up to things like this. Back in the Day, I had an HP 2000c that had Time Stamped Cartridges. After the time stamped date on the cartridges electronic strip the cartridge would cease to work (Whether there was ink in it of not. Even if it had never been used). Time Stamp

Oh my oh my gosh. That Time Stamp post started in early 2005 and is still going. Disengaging a battery, using credit card to stop time and turning the time back are part of the fixes. HP said they do this to save the computer from quitting. I guess occasional users like myself are going to incur a lot of cartridge expenses. For those who are up for it, the fixes seem to work.

I needed a new printer and my Tech Fellow recommended the Inkjet HP Envy 5660..E-all in one printer..have not installed it yet waiting for my son in law to install it to my two desktops and laptop....will let you know if I like it.....

Yeah, didn't want to buy ink too far in advance for that printer. Who could afford it at the prices they charged. The HP 2000c used 4 ink cartridges at $50 each, ($200 for the set). It then also used Separate Print Heads which were also $50 each ($200 for the Set) and needed replaced about every two ink cartridge changes. It wasn't a cheap Inkjet Printer at $500 and who could afford to replace a perfectly good ink cartridge at $50! Nicest thing about the HP 2000c was that it Printed at Laser Printer Speeds (Full Color Pages). This was because of the separate print heads!
