Cannot take a picture, but they look like robins with a white ring around their eyes. What could they be ?

Are you sure they're not robins? Check Cornell's All About Birds site American Robin - the pictures show a white ring around their eyes.

You are right Claire, they are robins but in December, so cold here in Mo.

LOL! Yes tree frogs are incredibly loud! I had about 5-6 singing to each other yesterday evening in the back yard and I could hardly hear my family talking to me while out on the deck! They are really hard to find too. I have one that retires to a little ledge on the top of my shed every year.....same spot. He's so cute! I love going to sleep with my windows open so I can hear them, but sometimes, I just have to close the window 'cause they are sooooooo loud! They are pretty amazing little creatures. I think they are attracted to my backyard because I have several little water gardens. They deposit their eggs in the water. They are so sensitive to the presence of water, that if I go out to just water a few plants, they start singing! I don't know if they see the water, or just hear or smell it! Ain't nature grand? :)

They are indeed beautiful, catherinet. That last note might really be a cheet. That's probably what threw you off! ;) Regarding writing out bird calls, I wonder who decided the Barred Owl says "Who cooks for you, who cooks for you". Even though I'm in Iowa, I sometimes hear a Barred Owl with a southern accent. I hear "Who cooks for you, who cooks for you all!"

Barn Swallows for sure. I responded to your other post; once Barn Swallows find a good place to nest, they tend to return. Generally taking down any existing nest will just have them build another. Is that a nest box? If so, you may have better luck removing that....but they probably will just build new.

What bird says "flibbity jibbit"?

It's not a wren. My wren says "kiddeo kiddeo kiddeo." I listened to wrens' sounds online and it wasn't there. My wrens appear in plain view for me. Love them. Flibbidy jibbit is exactly what the bird says! It repeats it about 8 times and stops. It's always from high in the trees. I looked up the vireo's song and it isn't that. I've never seen a vireo where I live. Thank you both. I'm still trying to figure this out.

I see robins in the winter here in coastal MA. In fact, I don't often see them in warm weather since they don't come to the feeders, but they come to my yard for water in cold weather, and also for winterberry fruits when they're ripe.

I remember being surprised too when I first noticed the white eye ring.

Also, if you look at the range map in the All About Birds site, robins live year-round in most of the 48 lower states. Some people insist that we see different robins in the winter than in the summer - that we're seeing Canadian birds that migrated south and our summer robins flew even farther south. I don't know if this is true - maybe someone here has some information.

I really think they are more darker than the ones we see in Spring.
