I can look somewhat skeptical at a dish with beets too. I don't dislike them, and rarely cook them. I'm glad yours was good.

A friend brought first of the season live crab Thursday and the whole evening then went to cooking it, outside in the snow and wind. We were gone yesterday so today was the first chance we had to enjoy it.

Friends generosity is wonderful, his timing can suck ;0) But the job was finished, crab iced and divided among neighbors and friends, everything cleaned up and everyone warmed up, and today my garage doesn't even still smell of crab like it did yesterday morning.

Pork chops pan seared and then baked in the oven, topped with fire-roasted bell peppers, red grapes, macaroni salad and deviled eggs which were made because there were too many eggs compared to macaroni for the salad.

Spinach and mushroom stuffed beef tenderloin, mashed potatoes, sugar snap peas and a delicious pecan praline cake. We went to a friends house for dinner and it was wonderful!

What wonderful sounding meals! Bob, I assume that your latke recipe included eggs? I like them so much that I use other veggies, like zucchini, instead of potato.

I pan fried a well seasoned steak in some butter and ghee....too cold to grill outside on the grill. Robert made a salad with mixed greens, spinach from the garden, mushrooms, green and yellow peppers, cukes, tomatoes, and gorgonzola crumbles. We sliced the steak on top of the salad, a favorite meal of ours.

We smoked salmon fillets in the smoker and had those along with steamed artichokes, cucumber spears and oven warmed sour dough bread.

The dungeness crabs are good this year; we had them for our Thanksgiving meal instead of turkey.

Grilled chicken breast in a sandwich made with cranberry-pecan bread. It's a savory bread, not sweet except for the cranberries. Wilted escarole with shallots on the side.

Oh I love Dungeness crabs! Wow how many crabs did you have morz? Nice friend.

We had to go get haircuts this afternoon and decided to have an early dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings so wangs and rings for us. Picked up groceries and came home. We are both so exhausted it's nice to just sit down in the new chairs and relax. I fell asleep for a while now I am in bed.

Dawn, our WA coast fishery is just beginning. In fact, these were crab from a tribal boat, they start earlier.

Raven, 21 crab, kicking and running ;0) Our cooking pot holds 8 so it took a couple of hours from starting the water heating (over gas outside, snowing) to cleaned up.

And he is the nicest friend, for so many years now. I always introduce him as the closest to a knight on a white horse I will ever have, he has a boom truck that he handles so skillfully I think he could pick up an egg. In 2007, our entire community was without power, storm damage on almost every block, I had an 100' pine laying on my new roof where the chimney had been and we'd lost a friend to the storm. Out of no where came my knight Harvey with his boom truck to lift the tree when I'm sure there were people who needed him more than I did.

The Latke recipe used 1/2 a yellow onion grated, 2 white potatoes grated, 1 beaten egg, and a small packet of "matzo meal" whatever that is.

Matzo meal is simply finely ground matzo. :)

Bob, your dinner was a nod to Jewish cuisine, including the beet. If you liked the latkes, substitute panko or crushed crackers. The matzo adds more crunchiness, I think....I always have some in the pantry.

I have never had Dungeness crab. I've seen it frozen at the store, but want my first to be 'kicking and running' when I have it for the first time.

I've made latkes using potatoes, onions and a zucchini if I have it. One recipe called for a carrot and parsnip, so it seems that anything can be used, really.

We haven't had pork tenderloin in a while, and it's one of hubby's favourite meats, so I marinated some slices in a balsamic/soy sauce mixture and put in a hot skillet. The recipe said to grill it, so a skillet worked perfectly. Green beans with walnuts and goat cheese, and rice.
