Took them to Ag station and they don't know - says it doesn't look like disease. Thought is might be Mg deficiency but said no, Medium should be fine, very rare to have Mg deficient soil here. Might just be transplant stress. Gotta wait til plant expert is in on Tues. Temps have been around 70 with lows around 60 - a few hot days, but mostly overcast with threat of T-showers though we haven't had any rain except 1/4" Monday and some drizzle today. Was really hot over the weekend but these have afternoon shade. The thing that's got me concerned is that the lowbush bluberries looked fine til yesterday when I noticed this "rust" on them. never saw that before, even last year which was extremely wet and cold spring. Definitely not transplant stress with those. Fungal infection? They are only 2-3" high and (naturally) mulched with oak leaves.

Don't be surprised if you find burns pop up on your plant over the course of the next week. They don't always show immediate signs of burning. I've seen many people burn their jades by throwing them into direct sun. They should grow out the damage over time though. I personally have pruned lots of plants, most recently I burned a bunch of new echeverias. They were little guys and grew out their burned leaves in about a 2 month period and are thriving now. Good luck! also, hens & chicks is a common name used for both sempervivum and echeverias which prefer way different natural habitat and benefit from being treated a little differently in container/garden culture. A picture would help determine what type of "hens & chick" plant you have.

Carol, I'm just going to suck it up and take the loss. Maybe my dau or someone else will want for something. Ken, That particular single burner unit does look like it has possibilities. In fact is the only one in their catalog that I would even consider now, but I would have to try it before I bought it. I have the cast iron double burner unit in the Northern Catalog. Several negatives with the most serious being poor temperature controls. After getting the oxygen ratio just right to produce correct flame color you next adjust the heat. Everything can be perfect one minute and the next minute the flame has almost disappeared or will go out entirely. The valves seem to open and close by themselves & you have to monitor it constantly. Once or twice a year you have to use a drill bit to clean out the flame holes in the burners as they clog up. A Coleman camp stove is much more precise and I use propane tanks for it too. Only problem is that it is just too small. One of the reviews of your unit remarked on the short, wobbly legs. The darn things do work loose on mine and the screws need to be periodically tightened. I suppose the heat and cold temps cause to work loose. The units need to be placed on something to protect work surface from radiated heat & I use large ceramic tiles. I'll be keeping my eyes open for a replacement stock pot. Thanks for the help. jt

HI I find that each plant is different, some have lots of variegation. Others, almost none. However, sounds like yours had it then lost it. Either way, it is lovely. I am glad you posted it because the photo in the Lyon's catalogue is not appealing, it shows a pure white leaf. As amore recent hybrid, it might not be as sable as some older varieties. Glad you have 71, sounds nice. Here, 63 today and our short rainy season, vilets seem to like it. don't mind the misspelling, I will blame it on "spell check) Joanne
