I have not seen that show -- they are here just before they come up there, apparently (Dec 26- Jan 2nd IIRC). I was more interested when I first saw them, but we were busy. Now that they are here every year, it seems less special -- and the guys aren't really interested, so we haven't. Anyway, DH and I did see another Chinese group -- more acrobatic than dance, and they were incredible. A lot of fun too. That may be as close as I get DH to Shen Yun, but if you do go, let me know how you like it.

Will do. I think my parents would enjoy Shen Yun, especially my mother who is in her "Asian" phase right now, loving everything about costuming and quite a few elements of that style of décor.

This is an interesting sidebar. Shen Yun was founded (here in the US) in 2006 by practitioners of the Falun Gong spiritual discipline. The group has performed around the world and is promoted/hosted by local Faulun Dafa associations. Shen Yun has never performed in mainland China because Falun Gong is seen as a threat to the Communist Party in China. The stated goal of Shen Yun is to revive the Chinese culture, which it says has suffered under the Communist Party government.

I wish tickets were not so expensive. The "cheap seats" at my venue are $70, and they go up drastically from there. I'm sure this is a very special event, and I understand that houses are packed for the performances, but I still wish that things such as this could be a little more affordable so that more people could have the opportunity to experience them.

They toured thru here a couple of years ago but we didn't go. I talked to several people who did and they loved it. Very colorful, beautiful and precise as I recall the comments. It is disappointing that venues are so expensive and more can't enjoy them.

I wasn't able to go the last time they were here, but FWIW, the reviews criticized them heavily for the large amount of time wasted on political sermons in the performances.

IdaClaire are you in or near Cleveland? It's being advertised on TV here in Northeast Ohio and I am so tempted to order tickets for myself and family. That was until you mentioned the ticket price. Online they really don't give the price until you actually order I guess. This group was in Cleveland last year also I believe.

I too saw the Chinese Acrobats years ago, also in Cleveland, and it was wonderful.

It's beautiful. To pay all the performers and musicians, they have to charge higher prices than some other shows. It's a very large group.

I saw them about two years ago. Yes, they come every year (I am in greater San Diego). It was great, I was glad I went. It was visually beautiful, the dancers/dancing are outstanding. Definitely something the whole family of all ages would/could enjoy. Though I likely won't go again at least for a while - I would recommend it. (I am into ballet so my time/attention leads me to those performances first.) DH wasn't interested so I recruited a friend, we did get good seats. Don't be too close though, you want to be far enough back to see the entire stage, there is a lot going on.

Schoolhouse - no, I'm in Texas. Looks like they're doing shows in Fort Worth and in Dallas, but just a couple so demand for tickets will probably be high (enabling them to charge those higher prices!). I'm still debating going. Would love to see it eventually, even if not this next time around.
