I don't know what it is! If someone else remembers, please post. It looks "twiggy" to me, like an ornamental tree or similar, but I can't remember it. You might try the plant identification forum here, think it's called Name That Plant. edited to add: somehow missed this the first time I read it "either from you or for you". Since I'm pretty sure I didn't bring it, it must be for me! If you don't want it, let me know, & I'll pick it up when I take you the coral honeysuckle! Some things I have learned about my black walnut tree: The nuts need about three years to compost, they are nearly fireproof,( If I elaborate more on this fact, you'd swear I was lying), the green outer hull will stain the heck out of your hands or any other thing they come in contact with. The hulls of the nut are extremely hard to crack and if you do manage to bust one open, there is very little meat in them, but it is very tasty , heavy one the oil. It is best to rake them up and throw them away, else the lawnmower will shoot them all over the yard and they are very dangerous in flight, may as well be gravel. The roots of the black walnut emit some sort of toxin that will kill a lot of plants that you might plant under another tree. This toxin will also leach out and into any other plants under the drip line. The tree can be enormous, comparable to the burr oak in trunk size, canopy and height. The one in my yard is simply huge!! I love my tree but I absolutely detest those darn nuts! If anyone want some, they do germinate easy and grow fast. I have one that I planted last year that is already a couple of feet tall and already has it's form. It will make a great tree within a decade........Billy

Thank you Kathy on not giving up on posting! I know how irritating and frustrating it is after all the effort to write a comment and it disappears---even more so, when it is a long post! I am pleased that my thread encouraged you to continue to try to save your Sun Powers. Yours are ever so cute! I see the resemblance to mine! I will try to take a few more pictures later on and see what happens to the coloring. Maybe we can compare photos in the summer or next spring?

Since tree roots extend beyond the branch canopy Armillaria mushrooms coming from the roots of an infested tree can pop up some distance from the trunk. As with plant species (fungi are not plants) and birds there are always certain particular features used to recognize each. And tell them from superficially similar ones. So try searches like "north carolina mushroom identification" to see if you can get sites providing enough detail to be able to tell - definitely do not assume the ones on your place are not poisonous without being quite confident in an identification. Also if you check there may be a mushroom enthusiast group show going on in your area somewhere.
