I have a 3 bedroom house. One of course is mine, one will be a sewing room, and the third is going to be a guest room. All this, as soon as I can afford to put the required furniture in them. The only room ready (except it does still need to be painted) is my bedroom. Good luck, with what ever you decide.

I have an extra room. This house was moved here and it was cut in half. It was L shaped, so cut at the bend of the L. It cut through the middle of one of the 3 bedrooms. The bathroom was very small....old house, 100 yrs old, so we used half of the bedroom that was cut to enlarge the bathroom....that left the other half. It is too small to be a bedroom....although, I admit, I have seen modern houses that have bedrooms just as small....so I made it into "my room". Not for sleeping, but to have a place to watch tv when my husband is watching football. We put a large window in it and used an antique front door because it is half glass....so doesn't make the room seem so small. I intended to put my computer in there....but in reality, I haven't. I still have it in the same room where he is watching tv. So, I don't really use it for anything.....but it is there and I could, if I wanted to. Actually, we use very little of this house. Besides the bathroom, we use 3 of the 9 other rooms.

I have a room like that and I've turned it into a library/music room with a very comfy daybed-sofa and an electric fireplace heater. I love this room! It's my favorite place for an afternoon nap, or to escape weekend sports, or to relax with my favorite music and a book. If I'm under the weather, this is my room for healing.

It can easily serve as a guest room for one, though I have two nice rooms all ready.

Use it as a storage room and fill it with junk. Lol!

A walk in closet? You could really organize everything with built-ins.

I have a four bedroom home. The smallest and it is small is used for my books. The largest is used for my sewing room, the other two are our bedrooms. Fix it up what ever you would like for it to be. Let us know what you finally decide upon.

I turned a small bedroom into my reading/puzzle room. It has a futon, 2 comfy chairs, 2 book cases plus table & chairs for doing jigsaw puzzles. I can sit in there & read uninterrupted. And my husband & I work on jigsaw puzzles while listening to music. It is a very relaxing room to me.

I have 4 bedrooms one of them is my sewing and crafts room. I don't do as much these days but I have a ton of supplies and equipment. I have several other rooms in the house that have various labels, we have one huge long room that has lots of big floor to ceiling windows, one end of it is the sunroom filled with wicker furniture which survived. The other end is the office with our desks, bookcases, credenza etc for the office stuff. That whole room is higher than the rest of the house so it got much less water damage. I took a wall out and incorporated the formal dining room into part of the kitchen. The formal living room is is now a double room dining /living it's plenty big enough for both.

I had an extra bedroom after I remodeled the big work room of my Uncle's into my bedroom. With the smaller bedroom, I divided it and made one half a pantry/laundry room off the kitchen and the other half a computer room off the hallway across from the livingroom.

I wish I had a bigger office/computer room. Mine tends to become a dumping station for boxes, items that I can not find a home for, etc. Then I purge, but it soon becomes cluttered again.

Can you pull the door closed and not heat or cool it? if it's that kind of space, it's always nice to get clutter out of the main area of the house, without resorting to attic or basement for storage. Or, you could simply make it into a peaceful, quiet space for items you really love. Paint the walls whatever color you'd like, and change it as often as you'd like! I'd have a pair of chairs, a small table, and lots of artwork on the walls -- something I miss in my current home.

When I flew the nest, my parents had a 5 bedroom home. They decided to do a bit of remodeling and use the room next to their bedroom as a walk in closet. The redid the master bath and put in a jacuzzi and used the old closet for the extra space needed. They use the 3 extra bedrooms for us kids to stay in when we come out for holidays, etc. It's nice to not have to stay at a motel.

You can use it for a pet room. I had to use my spare bedroom for my parrot until I gave her to my son.

Is it big enough to make a home theatre for one with surround sound and a big screen? You could add shelves for books and make it the library, too!

I have an exercise room, more like a full size gym that used to be a family room. A sewing room where I do mending even if I don't have a current project.

My neighbor plays the piano...a music room. My SIL collected books, a library. Another neighbor has a meditation room, she says she uses it a lot. We have a room the last owner used for his many tanks of fish.

Do you have grandkids? Make it a play room for them!

I know, send it to me! I only have two bedrooms, a living room, dining room and kitchen. I get really tired of being just in the living room and could sure use an extra. Have fun making it something special.

Library/music room!

We plan to age in place. The smallest of our 4 bedroom home is just a junk room right now. Our plan is to turn it into a nice indoor laundry room with lots of built in organized storage. We are not interested in resale value. It's all about us at this stage of our lives. The plan is to keep old washer/dryer in the garage for grungier laundry, dog bedding, "barn" and "project" clothes, mop heads, rags etc.

We have a 3 bedroom house: one is our bedroom, one used as an office and one used as a guest room. Our guest room is very rarely used, I mean less than once per year. I see no reason to have a dedicated guest room. I would like a nice place to watch tv separately from Hubby when he and I want to watch two different programs.

My fantasy is to repurpose our guest room and make it a den. I would put a sofa bed in the den along with side tables, lamps, coffee table and a tv. Or maybe a regular sofa and buy one of those blow-up Queen size beds we can store in a closet. I actually don't care if our home is not set up for houseguests.

watchmelol, I had a washer and dryer in the cellar for years; and the only way to get to the cellar is to go outside and around the house to it. As mentioned above when I remodeled one half of a former small bedroom into a pantry/laundry room I got my stackable unit UPstairs. Can't say how much easier my life got.

I love these posts about laundry equipment on the main floor! We bought this house in 1976. It has the laundry room on the main floor right down the hall from the kitchen. My first thought was "who puts the washer and dryer ON THE MAIN LEVEL???"

I was 26 years old at the time and in my mind one of the first changes we would make in the house would be moving the laundry into the basement where it belonged!

Long story short, we NEVER touched the laundry location! It's still in the same place, down the hall from the kitchen.

I'm now 66 years old. We live in the same house. Having the washer and dryer down the hall from the kitchen is a God Send!

Kessala, when I moved into my house in 1978 there was a winger washer down in the cellar. And I used that thing for probably three years or maybe more. Then I installed a normal washer and dryer down there. The stackable unit upstairs fits the pantry perfectly.

I used a wringer washer for some years after I was married. Now, I have a washer and dryer on the lower level and one on the upper level. I have a bi level home. So nice for me at this age. When I was younger it did not matter. I hung clothes out for years. I could not do much of that now.

Hi Schoolhouse and Marilyn! You gals were brave to use wringer washers. Just the look of those rollers scares me!

I used to hang clothes outside to dry for years too. Love the scent of air dried clothing. Don't care for the stiff towels though. Or discovering bird poop on my clean clothing. I've morphed to using my dryer full time for years now.

I have a reading room with the best big comfy chair, good lighting and and of course, shelves for books. There is a chair for a guest and a table for my coffee mug, some cheerful plants and antiques. It really is my little retreat.

Those old wringer washers had a bar just above them on the inbound side, so that if a heavy load of clothes - or the fingers of a hand - went into the rolls, it would trip the bar and the pressure bar holding the wringer rolls together would release, instantly.

Do you have a nursing, medical or dental school nearby, or a trade school or university?

Maybe take in a roomer, or, if you turn out to relate well, a boarder?

That should be interesting, and add some variety to your life.

After I'd had a few years of work under my belt and took some additional training in 1957, I roomed in the home of a family in the later stages of middle age, whose offspring had departed. Just one lane driveway, so sometimes we had to juggle cars, as I had a VW Beetle.

The school, Cornell, was in Ithaca, in the Finger Lakes region of New York ... and when l visited family and friends in southern Ontario, I never took the New York Thruway ... as the tolls cost more than the gas for the Beetle.

The mayor of the city of Toronto has recently recommended making a couple of freeways feeding the city into tollways. One more reason for we outlanders to choose to delay a visit to their city, I figure.

Several years ago they built a toll road parallel to our major freeway going east-west through Toronto, and the government, when they privatized the freeway, said that they would control the level of fees charged ... but, later, found that they couldn't.
