“After” picture of 24-36” of 2015 leaves (and plan for 2016 leaves)

Here’s what roughly 24-36” of leaves applied last fall
and this spring/summer looked like today:

It’s been a few years since I did any big
excavation projects in our little veggie garden (~17-18’ x ~24-25’). We put a
hoop house over it in September of 2014. Too bad 2014 was a bust as far as
scoring bagged leaves goes. 2015 was much better, and I put quite a few bags in
the garden hoop – maybe as many as 200, but I can’t remember anymore. Whatever
the actual number was, it was a lot more than I previously did at any one time.

I set cinder blocks on the ground before I
turned the leaves loose, thinking the “raised paths” would contain the leaves
to their beds. That sort of worked, though the leaves initially were a foot or
more higher than the path. I ran the sprinkler a few times over the winter, but
I was mildly worried about what sort of trouble we’d have when it came time to
plant.
