Name That Rose!

Jude the obscure?

Hi everyone, this is my first time here. Hope you don't mind if I ask something silly. :)

So I've been having this plant for many months now. I ordered it as Jude the obscure, and the name tag says so too.

The problem is when it bloomed, I'm not sure about the flower shape and colors. Some of my friends said that's not it, JTO should have more of a yellowish tone to the petals(?), while mine are peach with just a little hint of yellow at the base of each petal.

Here are some photos for you to see. What do you think? Is that it, or Does it look like something else?

And also, I live in Vietnam and it can get really really hot here sometimes at around 38 Celsius in late morning or even higher in the noon, so most of the English roses tend to look darker or more vibrant in color and then also fade very quickly after one or two days; they won't hold the cup shape too long either. I think maybe that's why I'm so confused.

Jude has highly variable color but I've never seen him looking that pink or with the outer petals fading. The form would not be out of range for Jude. Is the fragrance strong and fruity, like guava? It's a very unusual fragrance, even among Austins. The only rose I know of that smells similarly is Windermere, which is white/cream, and less intense. Once you've smelled it, it is unforgettable. If it doesn't have this fragrance, it isn't Jude.

¡¡Hola!! Estoy de acuerdo con el comentario anterior. Si algo distingue a Rose 'Jude el oscuro' es su delicioso aroma !! Inconfundible !!

Os muestro algunas fotos de mi JTO.

Mi jardín tiene un clima muy caluroso en verano (más de 35 ° centígrados), pero sobre todo es un clima muy seco. Estas temperaturas no ayudan a las rosas que se le mantenga durante muchos días. Pero no es JTO las rosas menos hermosas. Hay rosas David Austin que soportan el sol más fuerte peor.

Es difícil garantizar la identificación de una rosa por el color. Ya sabes, que depende de la luz, la cámara.

La forma de las hojas de su TJO están en la línea de esta variedad. Los veo bastante como mi rosal.

Frankly, I can do without the cold weather, and I am jealous of you, fragrance. This chill was the worst in twenty some years of rose growing because it came on Nov 15, 2014, when all the roses were not dormant, and things still looked quite nice. Temps hit about zero for three days and just messed up the roses. Didn't trouble much else. It's always the roses--what prima donnas. Anyway, there was a clear demarcation between which plants can take the cold and had no damage, or very little, and those that don't do well at all dealing with this strange, unexpected kind of cold. I've concluded that it's genetics, pure and simple. Didn't matter what part of the garden they were located in, or even how young they were. I've grown Golden Celebration for 17-18 years, and I don't remember it ever being susceptible to cold, even when we had a zone 5 winter in 2016-7. GC is one of my top three or four Austins. I agree about grafted, but I like all my roses grafted. Here are a few Golden Cel photos from this year. No blooms in my garden right now because of the series of hard freezes down to 24F we had a week or so ago. Of course, it has warmed up some now. Too late. Sheila, good to know it does just fine in full sun! I think I will need to move it to my front garden to give it more growing space next year! Minshen, sorry to hear they're sold out of Jude at your nursery...if you do come to the mainland side, I did see a few Jude's left at Arts nursery in Surrey just yesterday. Evelyn looks lovely though!

Jude is worth buying for the fragrance alone! Strong even in freezing late autumn rains and great as a cut flower. Here in England it buds out later than other roses and so only seems capable of 2 flushes (a third one usually fails as we reach late October/November). But when it does bloom it goes absolutely crazy with just how many flowers it pushes out. As for balling, I can't say i've noticed it much, and let me tell you it's rainy in England. Olivia Rose Austin is a much more guilty culprit, to the point where I might just shovel prune the whole thing next year if it doesn't step up it's game this summer.

I think you have the right rose. Jude the Obscure cycles through shell pink (like yours), light apricot and buff-yellow. Mine fades at the edges when it's hot.
