Need help with my palm tree
Comments (1)to me it looks like 1 of 2 things, first could be cold damage 2nd rot. but for a mediterranean palm to be fried like that from cold especailly in southern CA u'd have to be in the mountains! so my guess is rot. mediterraneans dont need much water especially in winter! i would not water them durning winter. where do u live?...See Moremini indoor palm tree dilemma help please!
Comments (8)Purple I'm so jealous of those palms! I live in Canada too and have the drafty cold windows as well but I have various plants that grow in the windowsill. All year round, day and night, I have my schefflera, haworthia, and Pony Palm growing up against the window while during the day I put 2 of my Spiders, wandering Jew, and COT on the window. I have Never had problems with any damage what so ever as I move the more 'sensitive' plants such as the Spiders and the wandering jew away from the window at night. All though, during the cold spells of - 40 and 30 I don't place them in the windowsill at all as that's just too cold. You can probably get away with placing the palm in the windowsill but if it is a parlor Palm, they can handle very low light situations. My neighbour has one growing 20 ft away from a North window that has its blinds shut all day and it flowers (not saying thats what they prefer) Want that Palm so bad! And as everyone else has mentioned they are notoriously slow growers....See MoreMaybe my cat killed my indoor palm.. I'm not sure!
Comments (3)Firstly it's not a palm, not even close. It's Dracaena marginata (more closely related to asparagus than to palms). But they should put out new shoots from those stems. You need to be sure the soil drains fast and doesn't stay too soggy. Don't over water, let it dry out a bit between waterings. You can push a wooden dowel down into the soil to check how wet it is deeper down. They like a lot of light, but ease them into direct sun if they've been growing in shade. The broken off branches can be used as cuttings, they strike quite easily....See MoreHi there, i would like some help with my indoor palm tree.
Comments (2)It could be powdery mildew. Neem oil is pretty good at curing fungus. It comes from the neem tree in India. Safe for people & pets. I put 2 TBS in 2 gallon pump sprayer w/ filtered water. Mix it up & spray whole plant, including undersides of leaves & soil, every 7 days, either early morning or late evening to avoid sunburn. What kind of soil is this planted in? Is it a majesty palm? If so, they are a riparian palm from Africa, so they grow by rivers/streams. They like watered frequently but only IF the soil is fast-draining. Fast draining soil allows oxygen to get to the roots, store bought bagged soils do not & roots will drown if you try to water it as much as recommended by articles on this plant. The particles in store bought soils are too small so it turns into sludge when saturated. Mold & mildew are often indicators of a poorly draining soil. Talk to Al, he gives good knowledge on this subject. Beware, if it IS a majesty palm, they are difficult, ask any one on here. I have 2 myself & they frustrate me, despite giving them as close to optimal care as I can manage. Somehow, Ive maintained them for 4 yrs! Also check for little white fuzzy spots shaped like a grain of rice on undersides of fronds or white, high- jumping bugs the same size. It could be whitefly, which I’m currently battling on some of my house plants by using neem but I’m pretty sure it’s powdery mildew....See MoreChloe McCarty
