Need help for family room

The colors are teal, navy, sage green, and rust which are fine but feel the room could use more of something. As you walk in the front door there is the side table under the window then you are facing the sofa and green recliners with the fireplace and tv on the opposite wall? Wall gallery (in progress) located above the sofa. Any suggestions?

Turn off the ceiling light. Add a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height. Lighting actually has a lot of impact on the atmosphere of a room. No need to add anything here other than the lighting I've indicated.

This room has a lot going on and needs less, rather than more (you do need a coffee table, though). I'd start by decluttering and taking out the items that do not need to be there.

First things to move would be the little table and floating shelves to the left of the TV console, the basket on the left side of the fireplace, all of the mantle items, and choose either the end table OR the floor lamp to the right of the sofa (if it were me, I would keep the floor lamp). Next, I would remove the basket under the table to the right of the fireplace and slide the boot tray underneath that.

Then, I'd love to see an updated photos and work from there. Would especially like a photo of the fireplace wall in its entirety and one of the sofa wall with a view to the ceiling.

I think your first task is to find a rug to set the tone for the room. You could have carpet bound in the size you need if you want to stay mono-chromatic. A tone on tone rug in cream, tan and chocolate might add a neutral but interesting touch. It only needs to be a couple of feet wider than the sofa unless you add new end tables that you want to sit on it too. I would keep it 12" away from the hearth though. Once the rug is found, if it has a variety of tones in it, use the darkest shade for your chairs. Be sure and take your tape measure with you so you can determine the right height on them. I don't think they should be taller than the sofa. I don't think the two chairs have to match, and it would be nice if one of them had a pattern to the fabric. Here is a mono-chromatic room, but with a touch of pattern and texture.

Solid color for window treatments . overhead lighting is only one layer of lighting for a room you will need lamps maybe evn floor lamps and we need to know the size of the room the pieces of furniture you are having upholstered and their sizes. What is the tile in the picture of the fabric. I would for sure take the light out of the fan and mke sure all the lighting is LEDs ideally in 4000K to keep the colors you choose true in all times of day. I would choose a color from the rug, you will be getting, for the window coverings most likely drapes and make sure they are at leasy 2 1/2 x the width of the rod I have no idea how much natural light you get in the space but if quite a lot you will solard shades to protect your new floors and fabrics they will provide heat and UV protection and still allow you to keep the view during the day and also provide privacy during the day. Make sure you get a darker color for the shades in 10% they give the best protection and allow the best view. Do you have the spot for the TV already then please share that .

it's a bit hard to answer in the abstract (i.e., are there other sitting rooms someplace?). my starting point would be adding more seating -- some day you may want to watch TV with more than two people at a time, or even have a conversation there! put a couch on the wall that has the play mats currently (without measurements, I'm just assuming there's still clearance to walk through -- otherwise, a pair of chairs with a table between them), and get a larger rug to unify the whole seating area/conversational grouping. if the current couch is too far from the TV for comfortable watching, you could move it up close the fireplace, leaving a walkway behind to the sliders. but again, I'm just guessing at scale here. otherwise, TV might be better lowered. I'd also switch the blue art behind the couch for the brown piece over the fireplace which will put both in better proportion to their settings.
