Got any Christmas gift ideas? (It's never too early!)
Comments (23)We are definitely into the countdown & I have started - my DH is in food sales and gives each of his customers gifts (about 40 of them!). I start right after Christmas & get gifts for the next year on clearance. Usually we give books, candles, and ornaments and I try and stay under $5 for each. I have started buying for family too - all the grands - kids & neices & nephews (all 20 of them) get books. I purchase from a catalog/website that has on sale & clearance - I try to find books under $5 (for the customers mentioned above also). If you want the name of the website please e-mail me. For our 4 kids we wait until we get a list from them. I have bought items off the list & then got their list and ended up spending too much! For brothers & sisters & immediate nieces & nephews - I make jam/jelly & they each get a jar of wonderful goodness - we grow the fruit & then I make jam & jelly for them. I am about 1/2 way done on that... I don't post all that often - but I enjoy lurking - what a wonderful group of people. Thanks....See MoreAn "OMG, What To Do With It" Early Christmas Gift!
Comments (30)Lynn, Our salad was served after the tasting to clear our palates. It was served with a chardonnay wine. Here's the recipe: Salad to pair w/ Chardonnay Basil Vinaigrette 10 basil leaves 1/3 C extra virgin olive oil 1 1/2 Tbsp Champagne vinegar Pinch salt Couple cranks black pepper 1/8 tsp ground cardamon In blender or food processor, blend leaves & vinegar. Drizzle in evoo while blending. Add seasoning, mix, and refrigerate. Salad Triple Creme Brie - a wheel or large wedge 3 Granny Smith Apples Sourdough Boule (I like Nashoba Valley from Concord) Field Greens Cut double creme into small wedges while cold. Warm to room temp before service. Core and cut apples into thin wedges. Store in ice water until plating. Blot before service. Cut Sourdough into large, thin, crust-less triangles. Lightly toast until barely brown. Brush with evoo and sprinkle with coarse salt while warm. Toss field greens in dressing and plate. Add 2 pieces of cheese. Fan out 3 pieces of apple. Lay one toast triangle across top....See MoreOT: My early Christmas gift to myself
Comments (10)Lisa, eBay rocks! I purchased a copy of To Persia for Flowers for myself for Christmas. Perhaps eBay holiday shopping for ourselves is a good excuse for a little treat and a way of making certain our rose needs are met, yes? :-) Your vases are lovely and will be even lovelier filled with beauties from your garden! I am enchanted with the international aspect of eBay. Over the years, I have purchased Turkmen earrings from Afghanistan, a Noritake tea set from England, Birkenstocks from Thailand, a scarf from Uzbekistan, flower earrings from Germany, a sweater from Sweden, etc. I'm not familiar with Waldershof porcelain but need to research it. Like Virginia, I'm all about blue and white. Your vase is exquisite! The deep cobalt blue with pink accents is a perfect setting for a big, fragrant cluster of your pink roses. Comments (35)Here's an idea that may be good for the men in your lives (women too-- but I always find gifts for men to be the biggest challenge!) I bought my BIL an infrared thermometer gun-- it was part of a gift package for their high-temp pizza oven. Construction on their deckscape has been delayed so the pizza oven wasn't installed but my sister says he's been using it to check temps in their ac ducts.. a reviewer said he uses it to check car engine temps. It's just a versatile tool/toy .. Thermoworks has 15% off sitewide right now so I bought one for my other BIL for Christmas....See MoreMarilyn Sue McClintock
