OT, but a TV travel show once did an item on the difficulty of using public transport when incapacitated by a broken leg. A reporter was fitted up with a plaster cast and sent to France and Spain to see how he did. In both countries he was the source of endless mirth as he hobbled along, with many members of the public being too doubled up with laughter at his plight to offer help. In case this gives the impression that we in the UK are paragons of virtue and kindliness, the same TV show arranged for a wheel-chair-bound woman to test out accessibility of hotels. Several were so impossible to get into she had to return with a 'helper' the following day. Once they finally reached the reception desk the manager welcomed them with "We saw you trying to get in here yesterday" .. :-( I thought a roadster was the old name for an open car?...See MoreOT Health update..

Keep the happy thoughts coming. Negative thoughts generate stress chemicals in the body which cause wear and tear. Anyway, you see more solutions with a positive outlook. If you feel negative thoughts are troubling you more than they should, try a diet overhaul. My negative thinking is often linked to blood sugar swings from eating too many carbs or snacking. It's amazing how food can influence how we feel in a very substantial way. Then there are all the other things we take in. What's great is that we can all have the ability to make improvements. Every good decision is a step toward feeling better tomorrow....See MoreOT - Election
Comments (32)Marlorena - I wish I have hope as you about the upcoming president but the fact he'd like to get rid of our Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) worry me a lot. It will be no problem for the GOPartiers....Increased particulate pollution? No problem as long as you don't breathe. Increased aromatic hydrocarbons...benzene, toluene, xylenes...no problem, as long as you don't drink the water. Nitrogen oxides in the air - not a problem as long as you don't open your eyes. EPA raw sewage standards? Who needs them - just drink expensive bottled water. CO2 from fossil fuels? Just use air conditioning. Radioactive releases from reactors? Chernobyl? Cherenkov? A little Chernobyl can give you a healthy glow as you die. Hey - CFC's - banning them is why we have global warming - they were refrigerants...that must be the problem….from the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology as reported in Breitbart - "It Must Be True" - the new trusted news source. If we'd just go back to our fondly remembered days of yore ("Make America Great Again") ...we could be using incandescent bulbs instead of those energy efficient LEDs...and then we wouldn't have to heat our buildings as much in the winter. Much more fun to drive around in a car getting 10 mpg than one getting 50+ mpg. Why should the EPA care? Acid rain? Heck, you could just park your car and get rid of the grime build-up. Asbestos gave us such a great way to die slowly...and then its use was regulated by the EPA. We ALL should protect Mother Earth it should not be a political choice....See MoreVery OT: update; bald transexual rosarian hoping to see another spring
Comments (51)Nick, my favorite mezzo in trouser roles was (the late) Tatyana Troyanos, an American with the origin from your beautiful country. Carol, I don't know how far back early music you like, but in opera I think someone like Cavalli might fit the bill and this performance by a fab French countertenor Damaux is as good as it gets, I think. Seeing him at the Met's Giulio Cesare a couple of years ago made me a (albeit, somewhat reluctant) convert to countertenors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWWsHP7OooM One day, I hope we might have a thread about roses and classical music/opera. In my garden, I have a little "Richard Strauss corner" recreating flowers from his last song including a rose, though, like you, I prefer Italian (Verdi!)....See Moreportlandmysteryrose
