I am doing the same thing you are and growing tomtoes and peppers. If the tomatoes are some what yellow thats a sign of to much water same with the peppers. If they are at least 1" high I think it is time to remove your lid and get some light on them. Some people may wait for the second leaf. But everyones conditions are different. I am using a florescent light on top of mine as close as I can get it about 8" closer is better. Its one of those like in a factory, round with a magnifing glass in it. I have got it clamped to an art table and it is on 2hrs off 1 24/7(timer) . If it is cold where you are you can leave the heating pad. My peppers are about 2" and have been un-covered for a least 2weeks. Same for the tomatoes. Hope this helps

The frogs may eat each other as well. If you can find crickets it is fun to feed them. Big bullfrogs can eat smaller birds and sometimes will drown bigger birds they grab but are too big to swallow. Lately all my frogs, of six years, left or were eaten by somthing and I have one lone young bullfrog. He was about 1 inch long and has grown to about 4 inches fat on worms. I call him 'The King' as he is, for now, King of the pond. He is probably offspring from the bigger frogs and no doubt would have been eaten by them if they were still around. It is a frog eat frog world:-) To attract earthworms I keep a pile of moist leaves and they congregate under them and eat the leaves. As long as the area is moist and there is plant material the earthworms stay. I also find them under potted plants that are outdoors on the edge of the pond (on the soil surface). Frogs will eat anything that moves they can fit, or partially fit, into their mouth.

You got lots of good advice from all posters. Well draining potting mix is very important for succulents. Search this forum for 'gritty mix' - to get idea how to mix it. Should you have problems with getting ingredients, at minimum mix in perlite (at least 50% of the mix, could be more). Perlite is easy to get at many stores. What kind of soil is it in now? Drainage - already mentioned. The pot seems to be slightly large - especially if you have water-retaining soil, so lots of soil will take long time to dry up. I would plant it in smaller pot. Don't add any vinegar to your water unless you know ph of it (test). If you are concerned about your tap water (it's probably chlorinated if you have municipal water-not so great for plants, but they will survive), you are better off to buy some distilled water in large jugs & use to water your plants. Better yet, collect some rainwater (it is naturally little more acidic than tap water), especially if you have lots of plants. Simple way of checking if it needs watering is to use a skewer; insert about half-way deep into your pot (or little more). If it comes out 'dirty', soil is too wet (just like checking cake for doneness, lol). Don't water until skewer comes out clean. And water soil around the plant (already mentioned). Rina

Yes, they are pretty advanced but they will be set out pretty soon. I'm not concerned with reducing the purple appearance unless somebody has something to say that indicates it is in some way unhealthy. I am curious about what it is. Of course I see it every year but this time it is a brighter color. The rest of the leaf is a nice dark green. Fertilizer analysis is 7-9-5 in a liquid and so the ratios are about the same as those mentioned. It's called Dyna-Gro and I went to it for the wide variety of trace elements it carries. Heretofore I used Schultz Plant Food Plus, also a liquid at 10-15-10. It's difficult to know what concentration is used for any of these products, so I've followed the label recommendations pretty closely, which means that they get a little more of the Dyna-Gro than they used to get of the Schultz. It results in continuous feeding with a weak amount of fertilizer in the water. Considering that these plants are as big as they are at 4 weeks from seed, it doesn't look as though they lack for very much. I've done my plants like this for years and they have always done well as I expect them to do this year also. I do let them get large but with the quart container there is plenty of root mass to support the foliage. And these plants are not leggy. A few of the stems caliper at over 3/8". In the past I have set them out at 5 weeks with no hardening off and no signs of stress of any kind. They just take right off and I expect these to do the same. With all the warm weather we've been having, I might even set them out a bit early. I did delay planting about a week because I knew that I wouldn't have a planting bed ready. The question I was asking is not whether anything is wrong but whether anyone has any actual knowledge of what this is and whether it indicates anything. The consensus seems to be about the lights. Maybe so, except, same lights. Then again, perhaps I will have to go on wondering. Thanks for all the responses.
