They won't starve. They know where to find food, and if they're not finding it in one place, they'll go to another. Get a few solar lights to set around the pond, which will attract moths. The skinny ones could be females that have already laid their eggs. I wouldn't worry.

Thanks, Nancy. I like your idea about the solar lights. I'll get some. I guess my husband WAS right but I thought he was just saying that to make me feel better and stop obsessing!!

The easiest thing to do is go to a pet store and get some meal worms or super grubs. We get 100 for a couple of dollars and store them in the fridge. Do you know what kind of frogs they are?

Jpinard: I never even thought to do this. What a great idea. Thank you so much for suggesting this. Pet stores are easier to find than bait shops! I think the frogs would love them.

By the way they are all bullfrogs of different ages and
one(!) green frog.

I went to the pet store yesterday and got super worms. The meal worms were to small. Those super worms are the most creepy, crawly, ugly things EVER! I can't even touch them. Thank god for tweezers. My frogs like them though and I can hardly watch the frogs eating them. I may have to re-think feeding the frogs....hahahahaha

The frogs may eat each other as well. If you can find crickets it is fun to feed them. Big bullfrogs can eat smaller birds and sometimes will drown bigger birds they grab but are too big to swallow. Lately all my frogs, of six years, left or were eaten by somthing and I have one lone young bullfrog. He was about 1 inch long and has grown to about 4 inches fat on worms. I call him 'The King' as he is, for now, King of the pond. He is probably offspring from the bigger frogs and no doubt would have been eaten by them if they were still around. It is a frog eat frog world:-)

To attract earthworms I keep a pile of moist leaves and they congregate under them and eat the leaves. As long as the area is moist and there is plant material the earthworms stay. I also find them under potted plants that are outdoors on the edge of the pond (on the soil surface). Frogs will eat anything that moves they can fit, or partially fit, into their mouth.

You can also go to a local bait shop, and buy crickets if you really are that worried. Just remember though, any that escape will nibble on plant roots. But they will fatten up the frogs and at bait shop, are reasonably priced. Whatever you do, good luck with your frogs! :)

Now that I finally have something to feed them I prowl the pond looking for the many frogs I know are there but only 1 or 2 are around. Its been in the 50's and raining and everyone is staying in the water. I have 2 cartons of those creepy worms on my kitchen table waiting for a sunny day when the frogs come out. Hopefully tomorrow.

I'm going to take your suggestion about the pile of wet leaves and sort of "hide" them from the lawn-nazi!
