They should start flowering here soon (by flowering, I don't mean anything that could be considered ornamental at all; the flowers are very inconspicuous). Once the seed is ripe, I'll send some out to anyone who wants some. Our local source is called Wild Things Nursery. This husband and wife team travel to various Farmer's Markets in the spring months. I heard about them from Linda who posts here? I went for the first time last year and picked up some native plants then. This year, I picked up 4 FN plants, astragalus crassicarpus (sulphurs), echinacea pallida (pale purple coneflower), a Ribes odoratum (don't think it hosts anything, but I wanted to add some native shrubs and food for the birds), and several other things I don't even recall. What is really cool about this team is that they always show up with caterpillars on their host plants, too; books for people to look at, like Judy Burris and Wayne Richards book, and lots of information on raising caterpillars. When people can actually "see" what these caterpillars look like and what they will become, it truly makes a difference in their appreciation of nature. Comments (23)What a lovely way to start my little internet break. I JUST finished unloading the conex, and while you can't park two large cars in the garage yet you can park 1 1/2 cars, or one car and a race car and a trike...which is enough until we get packed for port townsend. :) I'll read your happy thoughts for me to keep my spirits high. So far all is going GREAT with our cycle so we do hope it's going to work out finally....See MoreWish me luck -- renovation begins today!
Comments (6)Thank you both for your good wishes. Thanks also for the advice about Crema Marfil. Good to know it doesn't really take much upkeep. I absolutely love the look of it. And I found a great picture of what I think is Crema Marfil with Typhoon Bordeaux, so I think it would work. (Photo link at the end, since I don't know how to post someone else's photo here.) The other tile for backsplash that makes my heart sing would be an onyx -- either honey or white onyx. Same questions about upkeep. KItchen is now a big empty space, only the fridge remains. We are "cooking" in the study (microwave, toaster oven, Cuisinart Griddler) At least we have wine in the fridge ;-) Here is a link that might be useful:...See MoreAll my orchids are outside, and good luck to them)) How about yours?
Comments (19)Mike, Wading the Stillwater River in west central Ohio is out of the question this weekend. Just 30-40 miles north of me received 5"-6" of rain this morning, so even with waders and a PFD the Stillwater will be flooded and unfishable for @ 1 week. Very disappointed, but on the good side the 'kids will get out for sure as we're expecting 80's for the next week or so. Like Bill, I have a lot in bloom right now. As of earlier this week, I had 27 of my 70-80 orchids in some stage of bloom. Great time of year for us indoor northern hemisphere growers. I have 2 nodosas blooming right now and it is 'special' walking into the grow room first thing in the morning and smelling their fragrance. Back to the weather: I very rarely complain about too much rain, but it's getting pretty ridiculous here in Ohio, I think we are 10"-12" over average for the year. Lawns looks great!, but I have to mow every 4-5 days, if possible. Will probably be a dry hot summer and we'll wish we had the rain. Bob...See MoreUser
