Yes, I had the idea to try the berries because they were on sale, and they just wouldn't keep in that old fridge. In its defense (LOL) it was on its last legs - it came with this fixer-upper house - and I had the temperature dial cranked to max, with my little fridge thermometer showing the top of the safe range. Just had to keep it going a few months til we could renovate.

I sure hope the ice maker thing is a quick fix. But that grinding sound, who knows. My husband says it sounds like a dragon blowing its fire. There is certainly an oddness to the sound.

I'm glad to hear you have been happy with your fridge and freezer. I hope that once these things are fixed, we will have many trouble-free years.

Repairs update: The big noise was because the diaphragms were frozen up. They are two holes located in the middle of the door. We had a full shelf blocking them, plus while messing around with the ice maker we have been trying out various temperatures. Apparently too for the door to close properly, there can be nothing that extends even a bit off the edge of a shelf. All those things probably contributed to the icing over. Repair person thawed the holes with a steamer and noise is gone. The door also doesn't take as long now to "release" after it suctions itself closed, so that is much more acceptable.

With the ice maker they are not sure what is wrong because all the glides and the drawer are installed correctly, and nothing appears to be damaged. They just don't reach the switch. They're going to put in new glides and hopefully that will fix it. Parts are ordered and it will be about a week.

Good news! I hope the new glides do it. That drawer, on both my fridge and freezer, is the most delicate. Treat it gently. :) So there's nothing wrong with the pip on the ice holder, right? Because it's the pip that's key. :)

what is the pip? he said the whole assembly with the little ice bin in the middle was all OK.

I'm not second guessing the tech. If he said it was okay, I assume it is.

Assuming your icemaker is the same as mine, even though the freezers are different sizes and some years apart--which is a good bet because they tend to use one design/parts stream/inventory across appliances--the pip is on the little ice bin in the middle. If you look at the back of it, where the back of the bin fits into the cutout in the drawer, the bin should have a pip, a little prong that goes straight back. This is the thing that tells the icemaker it's in place and ready to receive ice. I learned about it when some ice that escaped behind the drawer made a clump that pushed the drawer out just enough that the pip no longer made contact. I'm always really careful when washing the bin so I don't whack the pip against anything and break it off. It's probably a lot tougher than it looks, but I'm careful anyway.

Hmmm. There is nothing that sticks out back there. There is the little ice bin in the middle, but nothing sticks out on it. That could be the problem. The tech did not notice it. He left his card, so I will call him in the morning and ask him about it. Thanks for that tip.

I can't say that your model has the pip. But if it's supposed to and doesn't, that would explain why no ice is dropping!

I am going to google the parts documents and see what I can find.
