Garage Floor Cracks

As my home is getting closer to being completed, they finally cleaned up the garages - first time I've seen the floor in months.

However, I see a 'spider' crack in the floor of the garage that looks to match up to the support form/post that was installed. I'm not happy about this...but what can be done?

I have never seen a support like that in a garage. I assume that the area around the support was filled in and maybe compacted? It seems like the support either moved up or the floor settled. If this is the builders responsibility I would want the concrete cut out and replaced. If it was my responsibility I would leave it alone and see if it gets worse. Good luck

Um, is there storage or open space underneath the garage floor? I don't know why they would leave it open and put a huge post there otherwise.

I guess your garage is for happy people? Its always sunny.

To support a code minimum storage live load of 20 psf and a dead load of 10 psf the joists would probably have to be 2x10's at 12" o.c. Usually this kind of structure has a center beam in order to shorten the joist span (and therefore the joist size) or trusses are used. An engineer might be able to design a bracing system similar to a truss using the existing structure (with damaged members replaced or sistered) that would allow limited storage.

There's obviously a drainage problem that should be solved first but no,you can't pour less than a half inch thick and expect it to hold up.
