Backsplash Idea

Has anyone ever seen back painted glass combined with tile in a backsplash? The kitchen will be transitional. I love the idea of back painted glass behind the range bc i hate trying to keep grout oil and sauce free (I am a messy and lazy cook/ baker. ) yet I also enjoy the much maligned subway tile backsplash with dark grout.

Shaker cabs, white wall and walnut base.

I have not seen that. It may be that because of how they are mounted onto the wall that it is hard to put two different materials next to each other and end up with a flat surface. Interesting idea.

People who choose sheet glass for their backsplash generally want its elegant simplicity and cleaning advantages throughout the kitchen, not just in one spot. I've seen glass combined with the classic 4" counter material bs, but not with tile.

Those who opt for sheet stainless behind the range combined with tile elsewhere build up the "behind the range" area with plywood of appropriate thickness to allow the surfaces to appear flush. I'm sure you can do the same for glass. If you're really lazy make sure to choose a matte finish on your glass.

Thanks mayflowers. I am sure people are tired of looking at my kitchen at this point, but this is such a hard decision, because it is so permanent! The two ideas I am now considering are: (1) your idea of cream tile matching the wall color (though I cannot really find one that truly comes close to the wall color) and (2) still considering a sage green tile, but I feel like that may take away from my green shelves. I am considering square, rectangular sizes/ different layouts of tiles at this point at this point. as for area, I am just considering doing the area under the wall from the cabinet to the left of the stove to under the microwave. May or may not run it up in the corner to the first green shelf. I am also going to leave the area in the third picture without a backsplash (the pic with the glass cabinets).

maybe green ...cant say the blue in the demo kitchen does much. with the large sized doors and glass fronts the tile should have some dimension / variation / or interest w the color/tone or something....... Its a big wall of white and the black counter really isnt a statement thats why I guess too pale a color like the blue just doesnt work that well in my opinion. Get to a tile store / bring samples/ maybe look for less simple/plain I guess is how you'd say it. Not sure what you like .

I would think about a whisper-soft light green, maybe in a glass tile. I think that would look wonderful with your wood tones (both of them) and act as a bridge with the wood, the counter, and the flooring -- would tie it all together and bring in a gentle element of color. If you're keeping the floors and countertops, you'll want to make sure the backsplash you get coordinates with them. It seems a creamy beige color might work best. You might wait until all of the other things are done and then try getting some samples of backsplashes before committing to any backsplash.

Never seen it but I think it could work. I like the idea of doing a fun pop of color.

Actually, UK ebay sells those "hob glass splashbacks", so I'm assuming it's quite common in the UK.

Maybe even one that's digitally printed.

You should be able to get a piece of tempered glass and have it digitally printed at a local printer. I'm in DC and they do it relatively inexpensively.
