This decison was the biggest issue before we started to remodel and really held us back from starting sooner (we are now in the middle of it). We wanted to gut the bathroom ourselves but heard how hard it was to get the cast iron tub out. Ours was pink. We had bathfitters come, and the quote was over $3,000 for a custom tub and wall surround. Then we got a quote for reglazing -- $300. He said he would only do it in our downstairs bathroom where we have a window, but will not do upstairs becuase he won't use the chemicals where there is no window -- too dangerous to his health. So we were kind of bummed because getting the tub out from upstairs will be a bear. We were pretty set on reglazing because the downstairs is a guest bathroom and the bath/shower isn't used that much -- unless we move downstairs when we are old :) Then our plumber came to give us an estimate for the rough plumbing -- he suggested not reglazing because it doesn't last, and said here's a hint, take a sledgehammer to the tub -- which we did and it came out in 6 pieces in 1 hour -- and the town took it from the curb. He also begged us not to get our faucets from the big stores so he wouldn't have to rip our walls out in a few years. So now we have a new Kohler white cast iron tub downstairs and are not afraid to face the upstairs bath remodel. We will most likely get Americast upstairs because it is lighter. Just wanted to let you know what we found out about reglazing and an easier way to get the old tub out.

I didnt want you to feel ignored. ;-) You might want to repost with a more detailed subject line. Like Newbie needs advce about choosing wood floors. Ive noticed that the floor guys are very nice about answering stuff but they only tend to answer posts about their kinda floors. If it was me Id take up the laminate. One because you need to fix the floor so its stable no matter what you put on it. And two because I hate laminate. LOL. Seriously. I clean houses and I prefer real wood. It cleans up easier and it wears better. And it looks better too. Also it can be repaired easier. You can do wood if its a guest bath and you use rugs. But if its a real bath then Id go with tile. Ive gained a lot of experience on how different materials clean and wear from my cleaning business. Its helped me a lot when I pick stuff for myself. Personally I like stuff that looks good without having to baby it.

My son & DIL bought a house recently with pinky beige bathroom fixtures. My DIL painted her bath a muddy greige color with subtle green undertones (sometimes looks grayish, depends on the lighting). I'm surprised how great the fixtures look with with the wall color. She added chocolate brown towels & brown shower curtain, and they work well too. We were both leery of the color when the sample went up, thinking it might be muddy & blah, but for lack of alternative, she used it anyway. It's turned out to be a great neutral: calm, contemporary, and very clean looking. Greige with green undertone sure rejuvenated those old pinky beige fixtures. (The next time my DIL speaks about color, I'm listening -- this gal is GOOD!)

Thought I would update this in case anyone else is looking for black trip lever handle for a Toto toilet. I called Toto about my Carlyle toilet, which needed a new trip lever, and the lovely customer service person told me that Toto does make Black trip levers (glossy finish) for some models. I was able to order one from Amazon for my Toto Carlyle toilet. Still do not know about the levers for the Legato toilet, though. The Toto website is a bit confusing and the info on the finishes is tucked away somewhere that I could not find without the help of Customer Service.
