"...all over the place...". How about Agapanthus, LILY-OF-THE-NILE? Joe Here is a link that might be useful: Agapanthus

Hey; I was reading this new organic gardening book I got the other day. They had pictures of a melon box with trellis from China, circa 1970s. You could probably easily modify it to protect the melons from the monkeys. (did I just write that... LOL) Basically there is a 2x2x2 box filled with rich soil, Mel's Mix in SFG case. Next they build a four post frame over it with 4x4x8 is what it looks like with the box centered under it. Then across the frame at the top they had a couple more horizontal supports of wood and dropped strings down from there so that the vines could grow up them. I think if you wrapped chicken wire around the whole thing it would keep the monkeys out. They recommended using slings to support the fruit so it doesn't drop prematurely. Plus, you'll have to put door(s) into it so you can get at the vines to work them a little, or you could make separate frames of chicken-wire and fasten them to the vertical poles, so you can just take them off when you need too. Your own melon monkey coupe... CloneZero

Great clump! I think Monkeys would really like this one because it looks like a ton of bananas :)

You've got the genus right, Araucaria, but not the species. Your tree is A. bidwillii, common name bunya-bunya, called monkey puzzle in Florida. In TN, where I live, locals call china fir, Cunninghamia lanceolata, monkey puzzle. In fact, the so called champion monkey puzzle here, located at the Governor's Mansion in Nashville, was mis-identified as such by the state arborist for years, but it was finally corrected. True monkey puzzle struggles mightily in TN, and you would have better odds of winning Power Ball than having a monkey puzzle live, never mind thrive, in Florida. I've got a A.b. in my cold greenhouse, that I bought at a well known nursery in FL as monkey puzzle, and there was no way I could convince them otherwise LOL. To your original question, yes it will grow a new leader, probably several. You may need a bucket truck to trim it to one leader, because although the foliage of A.b. isn't as sharp as A.a., it is still plenty sharp enough, especially on juvenile trees, which is what you have. Google to see what a mature tree looks like, I've seen juveniles in FL, but not adult trees, but that doesn't mean they don't exist there. BIG difference between the two. I sure wouldn't want to mess around the tree on a ladder.
