Extra side trim for Miele dishwasher
Comments (2)When our kitchen was remodeled in 2006, the dishwasher opening was made a standard 24", as we were buying a GE Profile. Since it had numerous problems over the course of a year, then replaced by an Elextrolux that was junk, I did some research and got a Miele Diamante Plus about 2.5 years ago (stainless door with control panel on the front). It was able to install just fine in the 24" space using the four side-mounting screws (2 on each side). granted, the space is a tad wider than I'd like (and what is recommended), but it's livable. If I got a panel ready unit, then the space would be too noticeable, or made the front door a bit wider to fill in the slight gap on the sides. I've yet to see any pictures of the side trim kit that Miele makes. Someone said before that it was intended for much larger openings than 24"....See MoreShould I buy an extended warranty on a Capital precision range?
Comments (3)It might be useful to check if the ignitors and ignitor module are covered by the regular and extended warranty. If they are not and if they are somewhat uncommon in design it might be more prudent to buy a spare set along with your new appliance....See MoreOppt'y to buy 2yr old Miele Optima off floor - should I?
Comments (11)It allows the unit to run at a bit higher pressure and is supposed to have a higher duty cycle. Too early to tell on that. Is it worth 500 bucks? I'm not sure you could pencil in a spread sheet making the xtra dough pay for itself over the unit's life. Your dishes probably won't get any cleaner, Miele DW's already work well. It's not as if you're getting a used unit without warranty from sombody you don't know and can't verify history on. Sounds like you're a bit of a nervous nelly and need the security of having the latest, new in the box experience. Many people would jump at the chance to get 25% off on a Miele product, as there is never a sale. Miele makes great products and stands behind them. They are always improving and innovating their products. Within a few years the entire line will have some sort of change to it and your's will be obsolete if you choose to look at it that way. Same thing happens with computer's - did that stop you from buying whatever you're typing on now? If you want a Miele DW and are serious about getting a "deal" sounds like a good opportunity. I always tell folks around here you don't get a discount - you earn it. Here you are earning it by assuming some risk with a floor model, getting a discontinued model, and living with older technology and not getting a box. Most deal hounds would gladly trade these minor issues for 500-600 bucks....See More5 year old 'new' Bosch dishwasher ...would you buy it?
Comments (14)If you have run a load and it is working fine, you have verified that Bosch will honor the warranty, you are getting a 5 year extended warranty, and what you really want new is beyond your budget, it sounds like it's worth a shot to me. I'm more willing to hand wash dishes while I wait for a service call than I am clothes. One thing that might change my willingness to try it would be if you have wood floors. Does that model have a water sensor/shutoff? If not, you could add one. Might be something to consider anyway. You know (from what I read on your other post) that a builder ordered it and never took delivery, so it has probably sat in that same storage area the whole time. Maybe moved over or further back against the wall and out of the way, but not like it's been trucked around, maybe dropped and such. Sounds like a better bet that one that's been used and abused for years by an unknown family sold without any warranty -- which is what I got with the last couple of houses I've bought. ;-) Do look at the terms of the extended warranty. At what point would they stop repairs or give you a replacement? Do they give you a replacement or an allowance towards a new unit and are there limitations or restrictions on the replacement (brand, style etc.). I would also see if the door panel sizes for the Bosch have changed over the years. If you do have to replace it, will the same panel fit a new one? Those are the type of issues that could make things more or less costly if you run into problems. I suspected from the model number that it was top of the line at the time -- or possibly one model below. Yours is one above mine in cycles and features. If you decide that you aren't willing to risk problems with it, look at the Thermador. Mine was $150 less than the similar Bosch. Thermador runs more in stainless, but tends to run a bit lower in the panel ready. Good luck either way. :-)...See Morethundersweet
