Why not ask the builder if you could purchase the tub you want and have it delivered to where they manufacture your modular home. Then they can build around it. Just a thought.

Problem- the roughed-in plumbing will have to jive with your tub. If the walls are finished and you have to alter the plumbing to meet the need of your tub, it will get messy.

I think this is simply something that comes with the type of construction. Unless you are doing something that is custom, they are likely not set up to deal with anything other than the normal.

Many deep tubs are quite heavy. You really need to problem solve this with your builder.

Well shoot. I'm really bummed. Yes, it is probably considered more of a "semi" custom home. I'm sure there's only so much they can do. :(

We have a 3' hallway with a turn in it to get there.

Most tubs will get through a 3' hallway and a doorway. You turn them up on their end and just move them in.

The real problem will be with tile and the finishes around the tub. Changing a tub out is not a big problem but redoing tile around a tub can be another story.

We have 3' hallways (and do I hope for wider ones in the next house-wider doorways, too!) and don't anticipate problems getting our cast iron tub going through.

That is much better than a plain, standard tub! I would go with it.

No way would I settle for a 15" tub -- my hot baths are among my favorite luxuries. Our builder generally goes with a framed in tub/shower, but I told them from the beginning that we'd provide our own vintage clawfoot tub. We specified beefed up flooring, let them know the plumbing was to come through the floor and not the wall, and gave them a template for exact placement. I checked after the plumbers left, and they had put the plumbing through the wall. I called the GC, and he said, "That's why we prefer not to do these newfangled things." Newfangled? A clawfoot? They fixed it, but we still laugh about it.

Is the fully-filled-with-water-and-body weight a problem?

If not, do you have a window you could bring it through?

It's a fiberglass product, so ought to be quite light.

My3dogs, if you're replying to me, lol, I didn't know the tub the OP really wanted was fiberglass. I couldn't find any reference to its composition in the thread. :-)

Miss Tammy, did you end up getting what you wanted, or settling for the tub in the link? You are close to being done, right? In by Christmas??? Had that baby yet? ;-)

Sorry guys. I don't have a specific brand I want. I just know I want something DEEP. I used one at a condo recently and the water was up to my upper arm. I measured and think that would be about 18-20". It was heavenly! So based on that, I was thinking the tub the builder is offering isn't as deep. Which stinks. BUT after I measured the tub we have now it is deeper than that one so maybe it won't be all that bad?

I think I'm pretty much stuck with the one in the link. Dh decided he doesn't want to mess with doing something different. So it will be that one and I will need to remind myself that it is better than any other tub I have ever owned. :)

21" deep is substantially deeper than 15". A tub taller than that would require a lot more water and take a very long time to fill.

You can buy a plastic cover that fits over the side overflow with suction cups. It increases the depth by about 3", which is plenty for me. Obviously you have to watch that you don't get it too full, or you could re-enact Archimedes' discovery...

We are also building modular, we do not have the issue with the hallway however as someone said it would just need to be turned on its end and moved around the corner. Our builder is allowing us to purchase and they are going to install/finish plumbing on site. We are doing a pedestal tub and we are not doing ceramic tile in the bath so it may be an easier install. Since the pedestal comes in 2 pieces it may also be easier to move in/out. Pedestal Tub

American Standard has a soaker overflow that can be installed upside down to give another 2 inches.

One of their drop ins was the deepest I had found (in a reasonable price).
