Ohiomom, my grandma's apple masher is, I think, an early kind of food mill. It's got a metal cone with holes in it, a stand for the cone, and a wooden pestle designed to fit in the cone. You quarter the apples, cutting out the cores but not bothering to skin them; cook the apples till soft, put a bowl under the cone, dump the apples in the cone, and use the pestle to force the cooked apples through the holes. The apple sauce slides down the cone and into the bowl. The skins are left in the cone, and you scrape those out and do another batch. Then you taste test the applesauce and sweeten/add cinnamon as you prefer, and either can or freeze. It also works with tomatoes for making tomato sauce, but you have to cook the sauce down afterwards to reduce the liquid. If you google "apple masher" or "apple saucer" you can find them on antique sites. bees needs, one thing that I have become completely weary of is deep storage. I know that you say that you have lots of storage. Storage areas were the very first to be excavated in my downsizing. My thinking is that, if it never sees the light of day, it needs to go. I haven't regretted clearing out the things in the back of the house. When we moved my mom out of her house I found a lot of big Tupperware that had sat in the back of a cabinet so long that it had turned yellow. I don't let things like that happen. Those "as seen on TV" items are what I call "weenie roasters" . They are basically useless and cheap stuff that was never useful or needed at all. There really were weenie roasters sold. Depending on your age, you may remember them. They were a little electric cylinder cooker that you put a weenie in and in about half an hour had a roasted weenie. That is right up there with the iced tea maker, which is just a bigger weenie roaster. So much of what is promised in those ads just ends up as nothing more than pure landfill. They are laughable, at best. I would like to have a mandolin, but keep seeing things more on par with what you have described, things that are not well made and have a lot of negatives. So, I just don't buy any one at all. That has become my default position, to just NOT buy anything.

I have this Black and Decker electric jar opener. It works great! It requires only enough strength to push a button down. I’ve had mine more than 20 years. You can find them all over eBay for a lot less than Amazon. I even saw one on Poshmark once. I like this OXO manual can opener. I would love to have an electric can opener that works well. I bought one a couple of years ago and finally pitched it. It never opened the can all the way and I was left struggling with trying to find a way to pry it open without cutting off a finger. I have this Norpro scoop/portioner in several sizes. I’ve found that the key to making it release easily is to lightly spray the scoop with PAM or something similar. I don’t know that this is the exact citrus juicer I have (mine was a gift), but it is certainly similar. I’ve had it for years. It does what it is supposed to do and goes in the dishwasher. You can find similar on Amazon. Cast iron would be my choice for a grill pan. I’m partial to Lodge when buying new cast iron. Their grill pan at Walmart is about $20. At W-S, it is $35. Several years ago, Cooks Illustrated proclaimed Chefs Choice as the best electric knife sharpener. I can’t recall which model. Like others on here, I send my knives out to be sharpened. I live in a very rural area. Nevertheless, there are 2 places I can take my knives for sharpening, the specialty butcher shop and Ace Hardware. My potholders are pitiful. Old and getting thin. DD has a couple of OveGloves that she likes. Not being argumentative, just curious, is there some reason you cannot remove the handle cover once your pot is on the eye and then replace it when you want to take the pot off? Is there a reason to leave it on the whole time? I don’t have any and have never used one, so I’m unfamiliar with them. Are they difficult to get on and off the handle?

Marion- Where the panel is now would not pass any code. Moving a panel is a lot of work, and, if you live in any part of the U.S. where there is a local electrical permitting department, I guarantee you that a permit is absolutely required. Do not do this unpermitted.
