Do you mean the middle rack? My top rack is the cutlery tray. I haven't have any issues with chips on my mugs or water glasses in the middle rack. I always put my wine glasses in the bottom rack and haven't have any issues with those either.

Are you loading them too tight? I try to load without touching.

Yes, I mean the middle rack ='D I probably am packing it too tight, but I run it about every other day. We are empty nesters, rarely is there a full load each night unless we have company or I do a lot of cooking.

I think you've found your problem. I run the DW about every 1-1/2 days. Sometimes after breakfast, sometimes at night. Or whenever it is full. Have been know to just leave out that extra glass rather than try to cram it in.

I wanted to add that on the left side of the top rack, I removed the little fold down shelf-thingies along with the bracket that held them. My glasses fit better now, but barely. Our coffee mugs slide off, as do my glass measuring cups. It really seems to be designed for espresso cups, and those little drinking glasses you see in Europe. Anything with a larger diameter just does not fit/stay in place. If I could still buy the old rack and have it work with the redesigned water "pipe" I'd do it.

If you look in the manual at the loading instructions, they show two layers of little coffee cups on the left side. No one I know uses those very often. I can't even see any of my European relatives using more than one or two a day. Maybe they're targetting people who own that built in coffee maker.

DH hypothesizes that they made the areas where you put the cups steeper so that water would run off the tops better. Most of my cups and glasses are pretty flat on the bottom, so I don't know if it does better on that count vs. the old one.

As you can tell, the DW is a hot topic over here. LOL. We keep trying to figure out what drove them to select such a poor design. I have to say of all the appliances I purchased for my new kitchen, the DW is the one I like least, whereas in our old house the Miele DW was one of the top two (other being Wolf ovens.) I have multiple complaints, most having to do with the racks. (The other is the control panel and having to click OK so often - can't figure that one out either.)

I've owned a Miele Dw for 2 years. I know it's not a very long time, but it's enough for any problems to appear. I've never had issues with anything chipping, and usually I have a lot of glass mugs (glass is rather thin) and glasses. I use the space for espresso cups quite a lot, I put little bowls that I use for various things while cooking. I also have to say almost all my cups don't have a flat bottom, and there's usually no water left (pretty sure it's because the rack is tilted).

I honestly love the design, so it's probably a matter of taste and habit. I'm not sure if the racks are the same, I have an Eu model, but they sound alike.

Maybe it's a loading habit issue? eg: You've been used to your previous dishwasher and are loading the same way? Don't mean to disrespect, just trying to find the source of the problem :)

Maybe you could post a picture with your rack loaded to receive some tips and tricks?

Oops meant to post pictures... Photo attached shows how I loaded the glassware. When I unloaded they were both flipped over on their sides.

Also good to know most people use the quick wash. The interior of this dishwasher is much smaller than any dishwasher I’ve ever had before. Considering we ran the old dishwasher at least twice a day I was getting a little concerned this machine wouldn’t be big enough for our family. We don’t have 12-16 hours a day to bother with dishes.

My glasses and mugs is also getting chipped by Miele. Very upsetting. Never had this problem with my thermador dishwasher
