Redoing bathroom, but kitchens keep pulling me in
Comments (3)I feel your pain...I've been needing a new bathroom for at least 5 years but not excited about it, so when the time came for a big remodeling project I skipped right over it and headed straight to the kitchen :) It'll be nice to have those coordinating-but-not-exactly-the-same cabs. I'm using a leftover piece of granite for my ba'room countertop. If you plan very, very well and won't change your mind, you could buy granite for both now. Or just go for different-but-coordinating countertops as you're doing with the cabs....See MorePlan too ambitious?? Please help with my bathroom vanity ideas!
Comments (49)I have an update and would love to get some feedback before I order the final accessories. (Demo begins one week from today!) I got a quote for replacing the vanity with white cabinetry complete with a sitting area, plus hardwiring of sconces. The costs all added up to too much for me, so I'm sticking with my vanity and overhead lighting location. I feel great about my choices for tile, bath tub, paint, and fixtures. My worry is that all the little accessory details won't quite work together, diminishing the beauty of the bathroom as a whole. I need to buy the accessories soon; here's what I have in mind. With overhead lighting instead of sconces, I prefer one large mirror. The mirror is by Pottery Barn, a wooden frame with gold gilt, 72" x 36". Perfect size for the space, very very very hard to find. This is technically a floor-length mirror, so I hope it can be mounted horizontally! PB customer service was useless when asked. The lights are also PB, polished nickel. For practical reasons, I ruled out any overhead lights that take type B bulbs (too dim) and have fabric shades (too hard to clean). As a big plus, these are on sale for $170 each. Do they go with the mirror and the rest of the room? Chandelier is PB, 18" diameter, antique brass, UL-listed. This will be over the tub on a dimmer. It was hard to find a chandy that's not too big, ornate, and/or expensive. Knobs and pulls are glass and polished nickel from Restoration Hardware. Towel ring, TP roll, and hook are Ballard Design in polished nickel. Fabric for the roman shade is gray on cream linen. Shower bench is Signature Hardware in teak. I hope this will help tie in the wood of the vanity with the other side of the room. Towel warmer is polished stainless steel (no nickel option) from Signature Hardware. If anything doesn't quite mesh or looks wrong, I would love to hear, as well as any suggestions for alternatives!...See MoreLighting, hardware and mirror advice for bathroom
Comments (9)Thank you. Unfortunately, the vanity will stay. I do appreciate the suggestions. The advice has been most helpful. My husband designed the vanity with our contractor. We aren't able to do drawers on the right side. This vanity sits flush to the wall. Our daughter will open the drawers on the right on the current vanity when the door is closed when she wants to hide out and we can't open the door. Nothing is shaker. I realized my photo isn't the best idea for the cabinet style. I've been to 5 different tile showrooms, brought home dozens of floor tile and my husband won't budge from his favorite choice. It's not quite as dark as in the picture. I think it will be okay. I really wanted a mosaic. This is more the style of our vanity but with 4 drawers on the left, middle section with a drawer (I was out voted on doing away with the drawer below the middle cabinet) and a single cabinet door on the right. I have measured all the items that we store. I double checked because Mayflower is right about making sure things fit. Here is our final light choice. https://www.lightingdirect.com/miseno-mlit7706-mia-2-light-bath-bar-mounts-horizontally-and-vertically/p2952597?source=smrf_Miseno_94MLIT7706CH And we decided on a polished 36x48 mirror that floats one inch off the wall. I'm hoping it will all pull together. This bathroom has been really stressful. Our kitchen was so much easier to remodel. Thanks everyone. This is our inspiration photo...See MoreToo many finishes? Comments (9)Matte black will look good everywhere. Satin nickel is fine too. More important than the choice between the two is THE DOOR STYLE. Be that single panel shaker, two panel, raised, recessed etc. What is the door style, and make certain it suits the flavor of YOUR STYLE, and also the door hardware. Know too, that hinges must match . Matte black will lead to more modern styling, and more expense than will satin nickel. That's almost a guarantee,. You will find more varied selection, and less expensive options in satin nickel, as well, if budget is a driver. In other words? A "knob" is more than a knob !...See MoreBuehl
