Jasdip, New game--I'm posting photos of parts of animals to let you guess. :D Not really. The photo above is of an alligator photographed at Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. Yesterday's head & neck were of an anhinga. Anhingas are birds that fish under water; sometimes only their head and neck are seen above the surface. Most common in Florida and along the gulf coast, they are often seen perched on stumps with their wings spread to dry.

Saw this while driving the back roads in my area yesterday.

I would never have thought of that being a gator, gyr. Thanks!! Very cool bird, but he looks vicious. A great fisher I'm sure.

What is interesting about how anhingas fish, is they will often actually spear the fish with their bill. So sometimes when they surface, the impaled fish is stuck on the end of the bill. Then they work it loose by shaking their head a bit and moving their bill, toss it in the air, and catch it for the swallow.

Casey, I just love your crow pictures. We put out bread and peanuts daily for our blue jays, squirrels, and crows. We love our crows.

LOL Raven. Yes, it is a crow. There were 4 or 5 of them and they were cawing like crazy when they were on the wires. We have ravens around here but I have never seen one in my back garden.

Casey, our crows, usually 5 of them, caw caw as if yelling, "bring us food, bring us food" every single day and hubby "caw caws" back to them. Luckily we don't have real close neighbors or they might question our sanity. LOL Our crows are so funny to watch. They get a whole mouth/beak full of bread, jump up on the birdbath and deposit the bread in the water, let it soak, then fish it back out. They fly off with wet bread dripping from their beaks. They "warn" other birds if a hawk is around and we've seen them actually chase a hawk. We think they are so entertaining, smart and regal.

Crows often post a lookout on a high perch. They are caw-suhs.

We enjoy the antics of the crows here also. Just yesterday the four usual crow visitors mobbed a hawk that was bent on snatching a small bird at the feeders. In the mad dash to get away from the crows, the hawk flew into a window right where I was standing, watching. It was a glancing hit, and the hawk flew off unhurt with the crows close behind.
