Just a suggestion, but I would also consider putting some crown moulding up.

Thank you everyone....We are looking to go with color again, just not so bold. We would like for the color to be lighter not white, was thinking about gray. We are going to change to base moulding (taller), didn't know if we should add the crown moulding at the top.

YES to making the baseboards taller and YES to crown molding. Are you going all one color this time? Do you think gray will look good with the kitchen cabinets?

I don't see gray in there at all. You've got a lot of warm in there.

It looks very low light, which is why I suggested the Capitol White, since you said you wanted to lighten it up. Light colors, unless they are very warm, don't do well in low-light conditions.

Thank you, tibbrix, you are right this are is not well lit. Do you have any suggestions for warm colors that are not as dramatic? All of the funtiure is wood (dark). I was thinking that white molding w/ white doors and white wall would be to sterile?

monica_gw, now that I think about it the gray would not match the kitchen cabinets. I really like the cabinets and don't plan on changing them.

I agree that you'll have better results if you prime and replace the floors before you finalize colors.

Also, it seems counterintuitive, but choosing a cool color like blue doesn't automatically make the room feel cooler - sometimes cool colors can actually enhance the warm wood in a room. if you choose a color that is very warm, it can sometimes look flat next to warm cabinets. A lot of it depends on the lighting and other factors, which is one more advantage to getting a blank slate before finalizing paint.

I'd look at warm greiges, like benjamin moore revere pewter, or for a little color sea haze, or healing aloe.

elpaso1, I really like the revere pewter however, my room is not well lit. Also, how do you think revere pewter will compliment my kitchen cabinets? My second choice is the sea haze. With healing aloe being my third choice. I am wondering if all of these colors with match the cabinets.

Another question....Should like paint the living room, dining room, and kitchen the same color or should I add an accent wall in the dining room (room with the 3 small windows)?

Look at SW Hopsack. This color was suggested to me back in 2007 for our dining room. We have tall white base and crown with it in a room that only has an 8ft east facing window and dark furniture. LOVE LOVE the color! Not sure if it's too dark for you tho.

Both of those colors (sea haze and healing aloe) would be great in theory, but it's hard to know which you personally will prefer, especially with regard to how dark or light they will actually appear, without testing a swatch on a neutral wall in your natural light. Also, your new floor will reflect and change the way the paint looks. I have seen healing aloe in particular look completely different in different houses, although it's one of my favorites and I always think it's beautiful.

That being said, a color along the lines of healing aloe or sea haze is a really excellent compliment to your cabinets and would be quite a step above revere pewter or any greige.

Altho very pretty, I don't see either one of those BM colors (sea haze and healing aloe) working with the cabinets.

Try BM Edgecomb Gray, a lighter version of Revere Pewter. Or perhaps BM Bilboa Mist.

If it is lowlight, I'd go with warm neutrals with a bit of saturation. I like Monica's suggestion for Hopsack. SW Whole Wheat is also a nice color. Warm whites do really well in lighting like that (which is why I had suggested the Capitol White).

I personally like a pop of color in kitchens in order to make them more "homey" and less hard and cold due to the appliances and what is usually a tile floor. I think they also add energy to a room that is basically a work room. That red is so heavy. I think a sunny green would be really nice in your kitchen.

Maybe something like SW Lime Rickey or Stay in Lime.
