My hospital bean counters must be stupid....
Comments (19)I posted a couple of times about the scam a large hospital here tried on first DH when he went in for a femoral bypass. When he was admitted, we specifically asked if the hospital accepted our insurance. The response was "yes". Shortly after his surgery and discharge, he got a bill for several thousand dollars for services during surgery. I called the hospital, and they told me that the hospital and surgical bills were paid by our insurance, but anesthesia services was a separate company that did not accept that insurance (Aetna). We refused to pay the bill, saying that we were told that insurance covered it. Well, he was scheduled for a second surgery on the other leg, and when we went in, I asked the anesthesiologist if he was in private practice or worked for the hospital - his answer was that he worked for the hospital. I just happened to meet a person who worked on Medicare Fraud. He mentioned a scam that many hospitals work, by creating a holding company that separated many services into separate corporations - the hospital in general, anesthesiology, radiology, etc. That way, they would have the hospital corp. sign on to accept Medicare and other large insurance companies, but the other corporations would not sign on to insurance companies - thus allowing them to bill patients for services they assumed were covered by the hospital. I called the hospital Administrator's office, and left a message spelling out this information to his secretary. Also said we were not paying fraudulent bills, and I would call Aetna, and the local TV stations if they sent another bill. I then called Aetna and reported them. My husband was at work.....a couple of hours, he received a call from the hospital, saying that they were "forgiving" the bills....See MoreQuestions about pictocin and about gift for nurses in hospital
Comments (24)If they give you the pitocin, get the epidural. I didn't want the epidural but after a while, the pain left me no choice. They gave me another drug before the epidural and all it did was calm the contractions - prolong labor for a what seemed an eternity. Depending on how much they give you, Pit, as others have said here, can be very very uncomfortable. DD was 10lbs and wouldn't stay turned. There was talk of a C-section but she eventually decided it was time to say Hi. The trend is to walk a lot even with pit and contractions going at the same time. That will help, but it can be rough too. I've never heard of any fetal distress from the pit but you and the baby will be monitored. Unless you have a strong coach, I wouldn't try the pit without the epidural or some other paid meds. You will wear yourself out - and you want to have all of your strength to hold that beautiful bundle of joy!! Congratulations and best wishes. Babies are such a joy, and bring you so much fun and love. gneegirl...See MoreOld Hospital Bill
Comments (8)The time was about 1970. My family were residents of USA and we were vacationing with my wife's parents at their cabin on a small island in the Winnipeg flowage. It required a trip of 5 miles over water out of Minaki, Ontario to get to the cabin. My young son ran, fell, and run an old snag on a fallen spruce tree into his leg just below the knee. Yep. This was going to require medical attention. We made the trip to town, took the car out from long term parking, and went to the territorial hospital in Kenora, Ontario. Meanwhile, I was shuddering thnk about how I would meet the cost. We had not budgeted for such a mishap. If the cost was too much, we'd have to curtail our vacation. We waited our turn at the clinic, and presently, our young son was taken to a service room. An intern examined and cleaned the wound. The nurse applied anti-biotic and bandaged the boy. Now came time to pay. I began to explain that I had an insurance card through my employer, and they stopped me. They replied, "We don't have a good way to process an issurance claim with the states and I do not think this job warrants it." Ok, I asked, "How much do I owe?" As I nervously waited, the billing agent added up a few numbers and said, "That'll be $12.50 US." I gasped with a pleasant surprise and gladly paid cash on the spot. They even apologized saying sorry, we had to charge $5 for materials. (That included a tetnus shot!) I believe this has been the smallest medical clinc bill that I have paid in my lifetime....See Moredr/hospital bills
Comments (8)jecrigler... will that serial number help when i get a house dropped on me! FUNNY! in actuality was NOT an overly dramatic fall? was crossing between buildings with my special needs student... beautiful day, clear blue sky, mid-may. had literally TWO steps to go up to entrance at end of hallway. i'm blaming it on blinding sun, but in reality... just a minor trip that domino-ed. one of those slo-mo falls. hit on knees first which actually probably "helped" prevent more injury?? had tote bag of school stuff slung over right shoulder and my perpetual big insulated cup of ice water in left. landed with left arm across stomach/chest. later told i did NOT wanna watch the video from security cameras!! luckily, another student saw me fall, didn't even stop but ran straight for help! another staff member was there in no time. no real PAIN to speak of until EMTs were getting me off the concrete and into ambulance... guess that's what shock is, huh? wonder if lights/sirens are included in bill? so 3.5 months later! PT/OT 3xweek... torture at times, necessary and seeing slow progress/improvement. i'm sure AGE has to factor in with recovery but this is gonna take a LONG time to resolve....See MorePawprint
