how to hide vent hood tubing that goes up to the ceiling?
Comments (2)I have a tall ceiling and the cabinets only go up to 9 feet. There will be a duct cover 24" wide made of the same stainless material as the hood and it will cover the duct and a bit wider. It runs straight up to the ceiling and will wrap around a beam at the top. href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/-Hg7eRaWbPgosBEUu2FfOw?authkey=Gv1sRgCPKK-9HqvL6jYg&feat=embedwebsite">From Menlo Farmhouse Here is another example: From Misc photos So, I know your range may have a wooden hood, so in that case, you could create a similar duct cover and cover it with drywall, and then paint it the same color as your wall. Or if your hood is wood colored, you could create a duct cover with drywall and then skin it using a similar wood....See MoreVent hoods that don't have to be vented outside? do they exist?
Comments (20)Your situation regarding a vent hood mirrors exactly what we had to deal with. Load bearing wall, finished upstairs bathroom, all the plumbing for the bathroom was exactly where we thought we could run the duct work for the vent hood and 8' ceilings. What we did was run 3X10 duct work above the 36" cabinets, vented horizontally to the outside and then covered up the duct work with moldings. We did have to drop the vent hood from 30" above the stove to 27". I was worried about having the vent hood 27" above the stove, but we were in the parameters of what the installation instructions required. The only thing I would have changed was to have a 9" vent hood instead of an 18" vent hood, then I could have had the vent hood 30" above the range, but you know what, it works like a champ. My vent hood is extremely quiet on low and medium low, but does get louder on med high and high. Whatever you choose to do, good luck. I always tell my DH, if they can put a man on the moon, then something is always doable, with some thought, and a woman!!!! Here is a picture of our install. Here is a picture of the finished product....See MoreAnyone have a Fager vent hood?
Comments (18)Thanks for checking out more liners, corgimum. Of all the things we have done, this vent thing is the one that is going to make me tear my hair out. It's not just all the choices, I just don't know enough about the way the liner and its parts are put together and what is needed to make it work the way I would like. One knowledgeable poster on Appliances said that the wood hood is the capture basin, but that doesn't make any sense. The moisture would damage the wood. I did a search a few minutes ago and found these instructions for a Wolf liner. That's how I thought the parts would go together. Dh brought up a question last night too. How do you get to the inline blower to replace or fix? Our attic space there is on the other side of a vaulted ceiling, hard to get to, and very cramped. So maybe an inline blower isn't a good idea after all. The only negative about Faber I read is that it is loud on high speed, which wouldn't be a problem if I went with an line blower of another brand. The guy at the Kitchen Store gave me the impression that you only use blowers of the same brand as the liner, except the Faber which specifically said the inline kit was made to accommodate non-Faber blower. At this point, the noise of the blower is becoming less important. If it sucks the smoke, grease, and moisture out of the room fast and is easy to clean, it's got my vote. I haven't had a vent at all for the last 15 years (recirculating doesn't count). I am concerned about the damper flapping when the wind blows. I have heard that in other houses and it drives me nuts....See MoreI have 9' Ceilings but I am only 5'2". Do I do cabs to ceiling?
Comments (100)I have 10' ceilings and 96" cabinets. I'm 5'9" and can't reach the top shelves but it bothers me not at all to bring out the aluminum 3-step ladder for the few times I need something (mostly holiday items) from those shelves. Luckily my 6'4" son-in-law loves to cook and does those holiday meals while being able to reach the top. There's not much else on those upper shelves other than wine glasses and some ice buckets; I just sold all of my china and crystal - so liberating !! I didn't want cabinets to the 10' ceiling because of the prohibitive extra cost, the look and also because of the Toll Brothers obligatory useless teensy kitchen windows that are 9.5' up on one wall. The discussion about using glass front cabinets in front of those windows, having to replace the trim around the windows, etc, lasted about 14 seconds. Nope. I insisted on having solid wood tops - 2 ginormous pieces - installed and stained to match because I didn't want to see the unfinished wood when I came down the stairs. Now I see giant dust bunnies and I've decided oh, who cares, lol. It's proven to be an excellent area for some serious art glass that I can't put "out" because of cat and grandchildren but if the house is ever on the market, the little bits of standard greenery will go up there instead. Long way of saying that, even being tall, I still use a stepladder but I think I've had 10' ceilings so many times that I'm used to it....See MoreKarenseb
