how to hide vent hood tubing that goes up to the ceiling?

My vent hood will be in my addition which has a shed roof , on the tall side of the addition just beyond the original house envelope. On the other side of the vent hood wall will be a screened porch. I was planning either an undercabinet vent hood with a raised cabinet on top (raised 10-15"about the other cabinets), or a wood hood with an internal blower and liner. In either case, the vent hood will have to exit through the roof unless we take it through the wall to the screened porch and then up. If it exits straight up the ceiling, there will be about three feet of duct between the top of the cabinet or wood hood and the ceiling. Any ideas on how to camouflage or otherwise creatively deal with this?

My architect wants to lower the addition ceiling to 8' to match the rest of the house but I was rather looking forward to the airiness of a cathedral ceiling. Also, I wouldn't be able to have that nice staggered appearance of the hood.
