Faber make a good hood. You are paying for the style if you are doing an insert with wood surround. You'd end up cheaper with a stainless chimney hood. Too much wood can be overwhelming when it covers the hood too, especially with an 8' tall ceiling.

Maybe it would be cheaper but I do covet a wood surround. Not a fan of the stainless chimney hood look. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

We just had our Faber inca pro insert installed yesterday. We have a 1200 cfm blower, and although our bluestar isn't hooked up to the propane yet, we turned the fan on full blast and it was acceptable noise level. We have a wood hood with wood cabinets, but broke it up with a couple small glass doors in cabs above. I think a chimney style would also look nice.

marti8a- I appreciate all the legwork you are doing on your liner search. Keep sharing. I didn't know Broan had service issues. Have you looked at Independent (comes up Pfizer when I google) or Prestige? Someone on the appliance forum once recommended them. Independent was said to manufacture Wolf's range hoods. GWer Sayde with the gorgeous gumwood kitchen has a Prestige liner. Coincidentally and inconveniently, both companies have their websites under renovation right now.

This circumstantially lends credence to the rumor that Independent ex-owner Steve Williams has joined Blue Star, but it raises several questions relating to intellectual property; designs, drawings, and product photographs.

We contacted Blue Star by phone, and they confirmed that since January, they had hired ex-Independent design "talent" to build a product line of custom and stock hoods but they refused any further comment until Friday March 16, when we were promised a major announcement.
But will the announcement include any mention of the IP?

Our own sources indicates that the IP was not sold to Blue Star. If not sold to Blue Star, how would the designs, drawings and product photographs have ended up in the Prizer Hood product line?

Thanks for checking out more liners, corgimum. Of all the things we have done, this vent thing is the one that is going to make me tear my hair out. It's not just all the choices, I just don't know enough about the way the liner and its parts are put together and what is needed to make it work the way I would like.

One knowledgeable poster on Appliances said that the wood hood is the capture basin, but that doesn't make any sense. The moisture would damage the wood.

I did a search a few minutes ago and found these instructions for a Wolf liner. That's how I thought the parts would go together.

Dh brought up a question last night too. How do you get to the inline blower to replace or fix? Our attic space there is on the other side of a vaulted ceiling, hard to get to, and very cramped. So maybe an inline blower isn't a good idea after all.

The only negative about Faber I read is that it is loud on high speed, which wouldn't be a problem if I went with an line blower of another brand.

The guy at the Kitchen Store gave me the impression that you only use blowers of the same brand as the liner, except the Faber which specifically said the inline kit was made to accommodate non-Faber blower.

At this point, the noise of the blower is becoming less important. If it sucks the smoke, grease, and moisture out of the room fast and is easy to clean, it's got my vote. I haven't had a vent at all for the last 15 years (recirculating doesn't count). I am concerned about the damper flapping when the wind blows. I have heard that in other houses and it drives me nuts.

The wood hood isn't the capture area. All the wood hood is doing is being the shell. Some hoods, aka professional hoods, do have the recess, with the baffles up at an angle to create a capture area.

I haven't figured out myself if a "liner" is absolutely necessary, or whether it is an aesthetic choice for smartening up the edges or a way to achieve a larger hood for less money. They are always listed as optional.

Broan has great spec sheets that show the parts needed. Have a look at one and you'll get a better idea of what you need.

The tight attic space is something to think about. I assume there is a reason you can't do an external blower?

That is a good diagram onedogedie, thanks. The only negative I have heard about the external blower is that it is hard to get repair men who will go on the roof. I am neither for or against one.

I've just had a Faber hood installed but the kitchen isn't done yet so we haven't used it. I'll report back when they actually finish the darn house and we can actually stay there!

Hopefully, I'll have made a decision by then Rainwood. If I haven't, someone please shoot me! lol Hope you like yours.

Dh just dropped a bombshell on me and I haven't collected myself enough to talk about it, but we may have to scrap all future plans and just put in builder grade get it done stuff.

I may have worked myself up for nothing, but dh came in this evening and said his job is being eliminated. I knew there was a lot going on at work, and there would be some reorganizing, but not this. He'll find out next week if he is being transferred, offered another job in the company, or just laid off.

My house looks like a tornado hit it. I can't believe this is happening. I spent most of the evening trying not to cry or throw up and finally had to leave to keep from stewing.

The last time this happened (different company), we had been in our new house for 2 months and I was ripping wallpaper off the wall when he called and told me he had been transferred.

So now I am torn between doing nothing until we found out about his job, or shift into overdrive and try to get it finished.

Thank you. I had to take a sedative to sleep last night, but after pulling weeds this morning (my think time), I've come up with a new plan. I'm going to choose two vents that take the same size ducts, one builder grade and one better with baffles. Then I can go forward with the base cabinets and have the uppers ready to go when we get the word.

Think that will work?
