Comments (24)Hey there, Deanna! :o) I had a 'Clifford's Stingray' last year (in a raised bed) but it did not make it back this year! It was neat but way too small (height wise) for where I'd have it in mind. I leave all my hosta outside where they sit in their barrels, pots, whatever--except the smaller ones I have in smaller pots on our deck. Those I set aside sometimes on the north-side of the house or as in last winter, just behind some of the barrels, out of the sun! I only lost a whole lot about 4 summers ago during that crazy March where it was definitely Spring/Summer temps and then it went back to normal after 3 weeks, and then, only a couple in barrels and the rest all in the pots you get them in from the nursery! I lost five hosta, winter before last to voles. So, now all pots have a layer of gravel in the bottoms, and I've even dug out some of my older barrels and lined them with gravel--the sharp granite type--not pea gravel. This year with all new plantings, I'm adding that same gravel mixed into the shredded pine bark for extra. I'm using the approx. 1+" size! I've got LOTS in big pots (some semi-planted/some not) and barrels! Oh, almost forgot--the hosta you asked about is 'Old Glory'! I really like that one! Right now the grassy green margins are not showing up so much but they will! I think the leaves might be larger if it were planted inground, but I like it the way it is!...See MoreHostas have "Spring"ed

Comments (241)Got to get photo up date. Mine is getting fatter but not taller? Under LED and basement cool. One Wendy and Chris gave me is doing great as well. Got to get new photos soon. Mike so sorry buddy. I wasn't here for a while and would have told you about mouthwash. Cheap dollar store brand. Has alcohol and is safe and could be used for many things. I add a spoonful of baking soda to the bottle and have it in a spray bottle. Works great. I used to use mouth wash to disinfect my breathing stuff on my CPAP when I used to use it. Thank God I am cured of COPD. My doctor said it can't happen but after full exam he doesn't know what to say....See MoreWhat's your "toughest" hosta for sun?
Comments (46)Windymess and peren.all - thank you for the compliment. I was gardening that day and am actually in the picture in my pjs.....talk about a surprise when I first heard the sound! I took a photo of it. Never having seen a drone before I didn't know what to make of it. The photo I posted above, among others was available through MLS so I pooched one since my property (and I) was in it, lol. I took this iPad photo once I realized this was a "camera in the sky", lol. When I first moved in, it was apparent that I was the only gardener around. We had dandelions galore, weedy lawns, and no gardens...just the odd non-descript shrub here and there. I am pleased to say that over the years the neighbourhood has improved - 80% less dandelions, greener lawns.....and - more gardens! A few of the houses are rentals so when someone new expresses an interest in my garden, I immediately offer them some of my perennials. (ulterior motive on my part - encourage tenants/residents to enjoy and look after their properties and get into gardening/beautifying their surroundings. It's a win/win.) ;-) Perhaps one of these days I'll move so I can have more space in which to garden....it is a goal of mine. I'd say that I have close to two to three times more the number of plants than this property can hold....See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
