Gardenweb pop ups from houzz :((((

This is very disappointing. I so enjoy Gardenweb and houzz but for the past 3 days I have had these annoying pop ups asking me to supply my e-mail for tips from Houzz. At first I ignored them but finally gave in and supplied my e-mail. Then changed my sign in name when they continued. Went through the change of password etc...now they are still there. It's about every minute. Any ideas?

I have had the same issue and it probably has driven people away. Seems to be gone now. Maybe they gave up on me?

How strange. Mine seem to have gone away too. Right after I posted that :-0. In the meantime apparently I now have a new "name"

Brad: Thank you for the info. I got PlantStep back up and working last week. AdwCleaner moved it to the C drive and labeled all the files with a .vir extension. I had to use a program that will delete the .vir from the PlantStep files in bulk, reinstall PlantStep and then overlay the cleaned files back into PlantStep to get all my data and pictures back into the software. I would caution anyone on using AdwCleaner. I have a program within Windows that does a check of Services running on startup which will give me a list of programs that I might want to not have run on startup. I even disabled the AdBlockerPlus, cleared out the cache, temp files and still the issue with Houzz continues. The message is definitely being generated from Houzz. I upload photos to other sites without issue. Just Houzz has something that changed. I already got notification from Windows that my version of Windows and Apps will not be a problem with the new update. I'm still waiting for the message that I can install which probably won't happen for a few days as they roll it out.

What do you mean grabbing your email? If you are getting emails from houzz or the forums you can change the settings in your account to stop all that activity. There's no way houzz can gain access to your email account to get email out of it. Please explain what is happening in detail perhaps it is fixable. First I would go to your houzz top right corner click it choose edit profile, go to advanced settings on left and choose to set the ones you don't want to no, be sure to check the bottom to save the changes.

I found this Decorating part of GW via its Kitchens. Forum. As we were starting to plan our total kitchen gut and remodel, the folks on the Kitchens were a huge fountain of information and advice. Everything from how and what to do to set up a good, working temporary kitchen, to opinions on granite vs Silestone and other counter choices, appliances, andvwhere to find the best hardware for my new cabs online. I learned about Silgranit kitchen sinks, ordered one at the recommended online place. . . and will be forever grateful for that! Gosh, I love that sink!!! I saved so much money and stress by accessing Kitchens! And then one final bit of advice on how to keep your sanity through it all: a glass or three of wine every evening (LOL)! From there, I found our wonderful GW decorating forum.

Sometimes I highlight names, sometimes I don't bother. It's not like the person actually gets a notification that they were mentioned. They don't but it might be a nice feature to add to the forum. I don't search this site enough to know how good/bad it is. Usually I'll just Google and specify the site/domain to search. Something like: raising rabbits site:gardenweb.com and again on Houzz: raising rabbits site:houzz.com I used to use Google Advanced Search a lot. Off topic... Some might say the bad thing about Google is that it sticks its nose into everything. It knows too much. Others, even the same folks, might say the good thing about Google is that it knows everything about everything. A good tool to gather information, solve problems, whatever. Personally, I just see it as a useful tool. Just a tool, powerful, useful, and dangerous. Just as willing to give bad advice as good. I never did like the "Google is your friend" meme or whatever its called. As much I use Google, Google is NOT my friend. But I love it. 🙂

Only time I get that is when I'm not logged in.

Ditto with pudgeder. If I'm not logged in I get a pop up everytime I read a post.

But when I'm logged in, the harassment is minimal.

Does anyone remember the hotlink keywords in the old GW format? Certain words would be underlined when you scrolled over, and would link to a product or ad. I typed 'fridge' in a post in the Kitchens forum yesterday, and noticed later that it was highlighted as a link. I clicked to check and was taken to a HD page selling ... refrigerators. I went back and edited it to see what would happen, and the link disappeared. I hadn't even looked at refrigerators, so it couldn't have come from my computer. Anyone else notice a rogue link?

Yes I remember those. I thought they were annoying & gone. I'd accidentally click on an underlined word & it would take me somewhere else. You mean they're back?? Uggg. Don't see them when I read posts on my iPhone.
