Bad seam on quartzite countertops. Now what?
Comments (12)Thank you, Joseph and chispa. I really think something happened to the second stone that I purchased and that’s why they needed 3 more days before installing. (To get another slab brought in) Agree that if the dark colors would have been matched up, it would have been okay. However, what is so upsetting is that they aren’t communicating with us at all. We are towards the end of a major whole house remodel and need the countertops installed before sink and gas stove can be set. This is holding up our move in. How do I get them to remove and replace?...See MoreQuartzite seams?
Comments (12)They put the little machine on the full seam to make it tight, but I still thought it was wide. The other one at the sink was just pushed together by hand. I think they are a little wide as well. Yes, there must be a chip at the edge of that full same. I feel like they need to repair the chip and then do the seam. The black places were unexpected because we looked at this on slab Smith, but you cannot see the side of the stone. That is just part of the natural stone. There are some other black Crystal spots in the slabs in general. We Did the seam at the sink because we were working with two slabs and had to get everything out of that. I went in and looked at it on the computer and it looked great. I was surprised about the two little black crystal things, but there was just no way to see those on the computer. They are not some kind of weird filler. I don’t want to mess with them and try to chip them out because I feel like that will cause more problems. Bad luck that they just happened to be where we were matching up seams!...See MoreMismatch in the seams and color of quartzite on kitchen wall
Comments (20)Matching slab stone backsplash is a high-end option. I wish this was more understood. Stone slab backsplashes are trending now due to some spectacular high-end (and crazy expensive) installations making the rounds on design sites, but this look cannot be recreated on a budget and without experienced professionals working together to make sure every detail is specified before any stone is cut....See MoreChallenge with grain of quartzite seam
Comments (16)We decided to change it - with grain all in one direction. Three reasons - We never envisioned a bookmatch, it wasn't a true bookmatch - just an attempt, and - most importantly - we wanted the focal point to be outside the two picture windows over the seam. The "bookmatch" drew your eyes there instead. The fabricator re-did it at no cost since they had not consulted us....See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
