Cabinets or Drawers / Your best cabinet or drawer??????
Comments (12)My kitchen reno was done before I found GW. So, I have 2 24" cabinets with slide out shelves and wish I had made at least one of them an additional bank of deep drawers. One cabinet is good for the height adjustability factor. I do love my slide out 15" cabinet. It houses paper towels and soda bottles on the bottom shelf and long boxes of foil, plastic wrap, parchment, plastic bags, silpat, etc. on the top shelf. There was supposed to be a third shallow shelf on top, but it got lost in the shuffle and it's still OK. The other cabinet I find very useful is the 12" cabinet with vertical dividers next to the sink. It houses cutting boards, dish drainers, cooling racks, cookie sheets, shallow bake/roast pans, and my ever faithful folding step stool right where I need them. It's very deep and holds a lot. I also love my corner Super Susan with no pole in the center....See MoreWill Adjustable Drawer Divider be useful?
Comments (29)Jukuvall, thank you so much. I don't know all the cabinet terminology so let me see if I can figure it out. "Removed drawerhead" I guess it is the outside front that has the pull on it. "screwed into dividers" I am not sure about this part. Then you used a drill to make holes for the pins? "2 pins on each end" (a previous post) "and 2 rows of holes". Does this mean 2 pins on top and bottom of the end of your 5 1/2" divider so the pin will fit into the 2 rows of holes that you drilled in the drawer box? I think I just confused myself. LOL IT is possible my brain is filled with sheetrock dust! I know my sinuses are for sure. LOL If the pins are in the divider then how can I put the divider in place....no, I have it all wrong. I saw the little pin holes in 2little fishes drawer box. Is it the same? Your picture shows just the box and dividers. Others look like an interior box was added. That would take up room so I like what you did. Help. I am so confused. LOL A2, what is the material you used for your dividers? I have seen it before. Is it MDF? Did they put grooves in yours? Taggie and 2littlefishies, I put my cookie sheets above my oven, but dang that AR double oven is tall. I might have to put them in a deep drawer like you did. Suck great ideas! Thank you all. Comments (3)With the right tools (like say a RightAngle screw-driver, etc), good instructions, and lotsa patience/time, it should be doable... You should be able to practice one set first. Then the rest will be easy to do. Apart from books, DVDs, etc., what may also help is to get a cabinet from say some place like IKEA, see how it all goes together, and replicate the process. Return the cab after that. The only gotcha that I can think of, is if you are working with particle board boxes/drawers - if a mistake is made wrt holes drilled, it could a little painful to rectify the mistake. It is little more invloved to "fill" with wood-fillers (pastes made from quick drying water-soluble powders) and then relocate the holes/screws. Comments (17)Oh--photo print paper, etc.! I do this in a drawer intended for files--I just put some hanging folders in there, and set the paper in the folders. But that does raise the stuff in the folders up a little, and some of the outer cardboard envelopes of the sticky labels, etc., do come close to the top of the drawer. If you think that might happen to you, then just get one of those "desk sorter" or "vertical sorter," or a "pot lid rack" to go in the bottom. That will keep them from flopping over, and make it easy to pull them out. (though, some of those 'desk sorter' things are themselves raised up a bit at the bottom; if that bottom platform is very high you might have a problem, so get one w/ the flattest platform possible. Or you could cut some foam board or mat board about 4 inches too wide for the drawer, score it two inches from each end, then fold it to make a flap on each end, and then staple-gun the flaps to the walls of the drawer. That will keep the envelopes from flopping around. Just make the divider a couple of inches shorter that the drawer....See Moresherri1058
