I can't live w/o Debra's (shives) dl info & photos, can YOU?!
Comments (15)Michelle - I feel your pain. I think I lost a total of 15 registered cultivars, mostly newer cultivars. I've been through it several times before, so it doesn't surprise me. I'm sure many of our member have had losses this year. Those of you who've been around for a few years will remember about three years ago when some of our Southern members lost hundreds grown in pots. It's much harder on those new to daylilies, who don't have that many. What bothers me more than the registered ones, is the 150 seedlings I lost. I had put a lot of planning, time and effort into those and it will take years to replace them. But people, this pity party for me must stop. REALLY! I've felt the love and appreciation and am most grateful. Plant growers of any kind have got to roll with punches Mother Nature throws us and move on. Debra...See MoreHelp! Comments (28)I've been going back and forth on your post for awhile now just looking and thinking. I have oak cabinets too and we changed out the hardware to ORB. I love it. I hear your pain on painting the cabinets! DH is the same way but has always been fine w/ me painting our cabinets. We've just never gotten around to it though. Leaving the cabinets as is until you cajole your DH into painting I think that white is a good decision for table and chairs. But Let me toss this idea out to you: Should you eventually paint your cabinets would you consider painting your table base in a pale shade of grey/ blue? I suggest this just because I think that those curtains need something a little 'weighty' in the kitchen w/ the addition of the brown sectional being in the other room. Or maybe not. I forgot that you were painting the wals green and I don't feel like erasing everything that I just typed!...See MoreWeek 11: Imagine what can happen in 52!?
Comments (83)So Friday the lady from the Mid-Atlantic Gardening board over there came with friends and her brood to start stripping downed trees. They're taking all the branches off and sorting them into thicknesses. When they get enough, we'll be renting a digging thing to make trenches. It was beautifully overcast, so they got a lot done. I, OTOH, did pretty much nothing. Went to the store and got more Citristrip and some hose mending things. I'm trying to work my soaker hoses in a logical pattern with my newly arranged garden. This thing ain't your mama's garden. It's at least 48' long, (yes, feet) by 24 at it's widest. It's got full-sized (now! Yeah!) maples, a 'Golden Dawn' redwood, a London plane tree and many other large shrub & crape myrtle things. I cleared out a TON of stuff (with more to go) and am going to move 4, full-sized Buddleia. It's opened up a garden I can wander through! Pathways!! I'm amazed at its development. Yes, when I get that new phone activated, I'll definitely post pictures. I'm up to 20 hosta in the ground and admit to ordering 8 more. GIANT hosta, for the back of the garden, along the fence. I have to remind myself I did accomplish things. Small, but every step moves forward. I'm into my annual, summer doldrums and depression. I just realized this Friday and that always helps me wade through it. The sun grinds me down. I'm so grateful for a cloudy day! We've been 17 days without rain at my house, although all around me they've had nice strong rains. Sometime I'll tell you about an 'atmospheric trough.' Have a good one!...See MoreWhy can't I find things to be pretty just because I do.
Comments (32)may_flowers and sprtphntc - I seldom buy either. I have been buying and looking at a few things lately. Both my mother and my MIL downsized this year and I got a few small pottery pieces from each of them. I wanted to display them but none of them really went together and so I was looking for other pieces to set them off so I was prowling consignment stores and antique stores. So much of it was pretty but not suitable, but when a piece "spoke" to me and I thought "yes, you will set off and add to my enjoyment of my great-grandmothers water pitcher", that's when I bought something. palimpset - exactly. I agree with you. I too prowl real estate listings (used to frighten my DH) but I don't want a new house. Appreciating things does not mean having to own them. mudhouse - oh I really like that imagery of "stocking the visual library in our minds". I'm going to use that line on my DH the next time a situation arises. Then watch him try to figure what I'm saying - he won't get it, poor guy. romy718 - Perhaps like your daughter, I just want to convey my joy in seeing something that I think is, for me, pretty. I don't expect the person that I'm with to agree with me because I do know that we all have different tastes and different definitions as to what is visually pleasing. I guess I just want them to see my joy in seeing something that I find to be pretty and I want to share that - not to buy but just to stop, take a minute and enjoy looking.. Oh, and to be clear that doesn't actually happen all that often. And kevinmark - you're right ,not every gorgeous accessory is meant to buy. I suspect that if one did that the joy of owning pretty things that one found joy in would somehow be diminished over time. For me anyway....See Morevoila
