So anyone have any good, holy cow its a ... stories
Comments (7)Mines more of a dumb blonde moment more than anything, and the fact that I did it twice, makes it worse. I mentioned before, I think it was one of my first planting out that I tought I planted toms, but realized later that they were sweet william. Well the other day, I strategically placed out each indiviual sweet pea seedling (oh, about 30 of them) I spent over an hour planting these guys delicately. When I was done, I went to my back porch to see what else could be planted out. I picked up one jug and looked inside, took a double take, re-checked the tag, and what do you know, it was my sweet peas! I ran out front to see what I planted out, it was my dwarf lupines, the one container that I has specific plans for and was holding off planting them out until they were bigger. Needless to say, I dug up each one and after another hour I had them planted where they were going later. (unfortuantly only half have survived) Then waited for the next day to plant out those sweet peas. I still can't figure out how I mixed them up, the sweet peas were almost 4" tall, where as the dwarf lupine was only in seed leaf stage, not even an inch tall!...See MoreHAVE: White habanero and Cow Horn pepper seeds
Comments (9)If you can save a couple of the white habanero and dry the seeds I am interested in some. We have about 12 - 15 varieties of peppers growing for our salsas and sauce and also pepper jelly. I can trade pepper seeds or agapanthus ( lily of the nile ) blue or white. Have reg hab. & cowhorn....See MoreStaircase: Straight, Quarter-turn, or Half-turn
Comments (9)So, my SIL has a U shaped stair open at the top to the entry and to the LR along the side. When you reach the bottom you are in a space about, oh, 8x9'. Then you go through a wide doorway to the basement rooms: "family room", utility, guest bedrooms. It creates plenty of separation, and if they had kids a door across the family room doorway would contain all the noise you need. The "arrival" space at the bottom of the U stairs is kind of nice to have!...See MoreI bought half a cow!
Comments (21)LOL, morz, we used to wrap our own pork in that white freezer paper too, we always slaughtered and packaged our own, but a 300 pound hog is a lot more doable than a 1,000+ cow. (grin) cookebook, as Jack says, there is a charge for the beef and a charge for the packaging, a separate charge for the slaughter. If your price includes it all, it would be approximately the same as it is here. Average price for beef here is $2.80 a pound, plus 55 cents a pound packaging, that's $3.35 a pound. There's normally a $40 slaughter fee, which you would pay half of since you're buying a half, so that's $20.00. So, if you don't want anything extra, like jerky, the final price would be $3.35 a pound hanging weight. The hanging weight is about 75% of your finished weight, depending on how much of the liver/oxtail/soup bones/etc you get. So, if your half is 500 pounds, your finished product would be about 375 pounds, the rest is bone/gristle/waste. If you take a bunch of bones, your finished product will be higher. And here, soup bones at the store, which are absolutely picked clean, are $4.99 a pound, which I think is just nuts. KatieC, I'm surprised about the soup bones. Here the whole carcass is yours. If you want every single bone in the animal you can have it, but you have to pay the extra 55 cents a pound of bones to have it packaged. I also get all the suet, if I want. I usually don't want it because I just don't have freezer room for it. I never even thought about cubed steak, we never use that so I had forgotten. My processor also hates it, they have to run each individual steak through that machine and I suppose it would be tedious and time consuming. Annie...See More- 9 years ago
