My MIL has a similar layout as your family/kitchen/dining areas and she has her kitchen/dining all the same colors, since they're really not huge rooms it looks better than 2 different colors in there. Then her family room is a shade or two lighter likely on the same swatch but I don't konw for sure. They both happen to be green. I don't know the colors you speak of specifically, I'm not to that point yet, but I think I'd be tempted to make the dining nook area the same color as the kitchen, and then go from there but make the family room a complimentary color since they're so open to each other.

I'm happy to provide it! Embarrasingly easy. GreatGram's Pie Crust 1 c. flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp salt. 1/3 c. shortening (generous) 1/4 c. milk Mix dry ingredients and cut in shortening. Add liquid. Makes enough pastry for 8" single-crust pie. When I made the pecan pies for the restaurant, my hands were hurting something awful! My husband (who doesn't cook at all) said--fine I'll do it! Sure, dude! I couldn't believe he thought he could make pie crust! Coffee, yes, pie crust?????? Well, I measured out the ingredients and then bent over the bowl as he mixed the dry ingredients with the shortening using the pastry thingie. When everything was as it should be--I yelped "Stop!" then took over. He is too funny! Didn't understand what was going on, but oh so happy to do it! Trudymon, enjoy it. It is very easy to use and its the only crust I ever make!

I used Rustoleum's Patina paint kit a couple summers ago to paint terra cotta pots and I loved the way they looked. Thanks Karen for your comment, and we ended up following your advice! We're just about done with the kitchen, and here's what we went with: We'll be replacing the dining room table / chairs at some point down the road, and countertops (getting installed this week) will be a white & grey engineered stone. We like the blue!
