Sister/Ex Betrayal

last modified: 9 years ago

From one thing to another...I separated from my husband last year. After we separated, he could not keep the house because he could not afford it so I did. Since he has left, he has been begging me to take him back. After not wanting to have any communication with him, he begged until we became comfortable with phone conversations. But I made it clear that I did not want to resolve things with him.

During our separation, he has been living with a relative, but has recently learned that his roommate decided to move once the lease was up. He has been asking me to come back to live in the house but I have adamantly told him no. I told him I would help him search for an apartment if he'd like but I am not having him live with me. He is 50 years old and finally makes a good salary so he should be able to afford something decent but he feels that getting even a one bedroom apartment is too much for him to pay.

After weeks of helping him look, I found out 2 days before his lease is up that he and my sister were in discussions and they agreed that he would move in with her. I am so hurt by them both especially my sister. We have not been on the best of terms but we've always had that unstated "code" that we sisters (I come from a large family of sisters mostly) would always have each other's back if it ever comes to it. It's shocking because during my separation, they barely communicated with each other-just the normal birthday text yet, when confronted, she tells me she sees him as a brother and wanted to help him. I found out later that she took him in because she is having difficulty paying her mortgage (she and her husband purchased a large house a few years ago with dishonest information of inflated incomes on their mortgage application and are now struggling to pay it). and the house could foreclose but she doesn't want to have just anybody live in her house. He, realizing what he did was hurtful, has apologized for even considering this but I have decided to cut off all communication/relationship with both of them as none of them has made an effort to sever the agreement.

I am so hurt as this is something that has NEVER been done among us in my family. We go through our ups and downs and have our issues but when outsiders enter the equation, it has always been blood is thicker than water. How would you handle such situation?
