Funny you should mention this. I've had this since I was a teenager but reallyl didn't know it. I remember when I had an eye exam the doctor asked me if my eyes were dry and I said no. Over the years I've had sties, some had to be lanced -- still, didn't get any advice. A few years ago, I was told to use artificial tears and to 'wash' my inner lids every morning with a q tip.

NOW -- I thought I had an eye infection 3 weeks ago. Family doctor away so I saw substitutes in her office. I did antibiotics for a week, it didn't work. Another dubstitute in her office gave me another antibiotic, etc. Finally I went to emergency in a hospital with an eye clinic. I feared the worst. OUTCOME:

Dry eyes. the little 'pores' in/under the lid were clogged. I have to do 5 minute warm water compresses at least 3x a day -- keeping water hot-ish throughout the treatment. I should also use artificial tears. I asked the doctor about the qtip cleaning. He said that is for anterior (?) but I have posterior (?) clogging.

Have you talked to an ophthalmologist? I would. What do you do with the baby shampoo? Also, a few years ago I saw an article in PREVENTION magazine about various ways to treat dry eyes. I may check that again for further tips. I must say that I haven't taken it seriously enough up to now.

I keep my eyes clean with no tears baby shampoo,(about the size of a dime), and one drop of Tea Tree Oil, smear over my face, then rub along the edges of my eyelids while my eyes are closed. Cool rinse water helps the inflamation. The eye docter says my eyes look great, and though I use systane eye drops, I don't have't to use them very much. Twice a day I do this, and it helps so much! Still, I would like to know what others do. :)

I rub a bit of coconut oil on my eyelid edge, let it sit a bit then remove with a warm washcloth. It seems to dissolve the flakes very well.

I tried coconut but it was greasy and it bothered my eyes. I'm glad however that it works for you. :)

I have had Blepharitis in the past and since 2001 I often get marginal corneal ulcers in both eyes probably due to having Rheumatoid Arthritis. (The Docs are mixed on just why I get the ulcers. They resolve with Steroid and Antibiotic drops without any permanent damage, thank heaven!) Stupid immune system i guess!

To keep my lid margins as clean as possible I use this regime. I wash my eye lid margins with Occu-soft foam lid scrub pretty much every day. If I needed to use a warm washcloth I struggled to keep the wash cloth warm so I came up with this. I made a little cloth bean bag filled with white rice just big enough to cover my entire eye, warmed it in the microwave and wrapped it in a baggie, then covered it with the warm washcloth and held it to my closed eye lid. The heat from the rice bag kept the washcloth warm longer than just going back and forth from hot running water. I also apply to the lash line once a month for a week erythromycin ointment. I also use RX Restasis twice a day. This seems to keep the Blepharitis in check and even though I still get the corneal ulcers, they are much less frequent since I have adopted this system of maintenance.
