Decisions on outfitting MBR closet.

Our new house has a 14 x 7 closet accessed from the MBR. In that room are the washer and dryer, but nothing else. The closet has not been outfitted yet. We were planning on have the original contractor build the shelves, etc. for it, but we ran out of money. Now, we are in a position to complete the job.

Here is the original construction design of the master suite:

The two short walls separating the laundry do not exist, but we may add them. Conceptually, the space opposite the laundry appliances might be devoted to an ironing/sorting table. We do NOT plan to have our dressers in this room. The ceiling height is 9', with 6" x 8" timbers acting as floor joists above; unfortunately, these timbers do not line up with where the short walls would be. Here is a view of the "laundry" end, showing the ceiling timbers.

The simplest plan would be to have shelves where the dashed lines are, with hanging rods below, but are we suffering from limited imaginations? Suggestions?
