Graham Thomas fragrance
Comments (15)I'm glad this conversation has come up. GRAHAM THOMAS (Shrub, 1983) is an example of a mono-scented rose. The blooms possess a Tea rose scent, but have little else to offer. To me the golden yellow blooms are fragrant. I'd even rate the fragrance as strong. If you can smell it Tea rose is absolutely wonderful: sharp and slightly sweet, similar to a newly opened box of Earl gray tea, with a definite astringent aftertaste. Very refreshing on a hot day. But I'm lucky. My nose has always been sensitive to the Tea rose scent. Unfortunately, I've noticed that a lot of other folks have difficulty perceiving it. Comments (2)Look, on growing roses where roses have been before, I reckon, on removing the old rose, give a good dose of chicken manure and blood and bone to the soil, plus a touch of phosphate of potash, and all will be well. I've transplanted roses in the middle of summer, here, west of Tweed Heads, and if I ensure they are kept moist during the settling in period, no problem. Of course cut them back by a third to a half on transplantation, or a couple of weeks before - cutting to an appropiate bud, of course....See MoreWhy do I have to replant my herbs year over year?
Comments (8)i've lived in cypress and now west of angleton (south of houston) and i've had many parsley of the flatleaf variety live 2 years and 1 lived 5 years the one that lived five years was planted in a container at the base of an enormous pine tree in two year old leaf mulch compost no soil at all i think they really can't stand hot direct sun over a long period of time and i know i never watered the one that lived such a long time i have several nown that are 2 years old and they're already suffering from being in the sunny raised bed they really like cooler weather her in south texas the ones in pots under the trees are doing much better, and the pots have to be large i've never planted the plants you mentioned besides parsley, except for mint and that is very thirsty stuff and you should really keep it contained i have some around the base of a lemon tree now and we'll see how that goes, we'll be mowing around that tree... herbs that i have kept alive for over a year and should have been able to keep alive because they're perennial are oregano, marjoram, several kinds of thyme, 2 kinds of sage, lemon balm and chives i am using these in a raised bed (about 12 or more inches high) made of rose soil they are growing as companion plants to roses and day lilies and some other small shrubs i can tell they really aren't happy after days of continual rain i think well draining soil and not too much water is the recipe for herbs--and the butterflies and other pollinators love the herbs...See MoreRoses for 6-7 foot obelisk - 'Graham Thomas" or any other?
Comments (11)vesfl... oh that's nice, I'm glad he liked the photos... 'The GG' is one of those I mistakenly put inside the obelisk, but you can get away with it as you see, but it's a little awkward to train up the middle, which is why I recommend putting it outside.. I also have another rose on that obelisk outside of it, so they share the space, although can't see it much in that photo.. some of my obelisks for this season, I've got no less than 3 roses all planted outside, which I shall entwine together, but obviously this is for the adventurous [read insane] gardener. Your friend can make do with just one rose... I like 'The GG' very much, lovely scent, nice first flush, and continues to bloom until late... Oh, you asked about the training, well I just let The GG go straight up really, it's quite an upright grower fortunately, not too thorny and troublefree, but the other rose on the outside, I'm training it around the structure, twirling it around upwards as it goes......See MoreUser
