I think it is a PL. However, on about 1 out of 400 plants, I'll get a strange leaf that looks similar to a cotyledon but isn't one. I think it is a strange mutation. Someone posted a photo of one on the Tomato Forum once and lots of people had seen one before, but no one knew what to call it or why it happened. That leaf generally sits there and never develops very much nor does the plant send out any more leaves and I end up trashing the plant. The lack of lobing is a clear characteristic of potato leaved foliage, although some PL plants have a very slight lobing on some leaves, but not on others. And, to make it even odder, all the leaves on one PL plant do not resemble one another. There's another kind of tomato foliage called rugose foliage, and it is odd-looking also, with a pleated, bumpy, lumpy surface. AND, there are a few plants that have angora, or fuzzy and/or hairy, foliage that somewhat resembles the leaves of dusty miller, only green, not white, except for the fuzzy hairy things on the leaf surface. And, if all that is not enough, there are a few varieties with variegated leaves. "Splash of Cream" is the first variegated leaf plant I ever saw and now there is at least one variety available commercially as "Variegated". I'm not sure if "Variety" and "Splash of Cream" are the same variety, or two similar varieties. They are more of a novelty-type plant since the tomatoes they produces aren't much, taste-wise. Finally, tomato foliage comes in a wide variety of "normal" colors, ranging from dark green to light green (and all the various shades of green) to a dark almost blue-green. AND, there is at least one strain of Mortgage Lifter that has leaves that are almost chartreuse green. Some RL foliage has very wispy almost droopy leaves. I think those have what is called the wilt gene. I don't like the ones with wilty, droopy foliage as they don't seem to protect the fruit from sunscald very well. Before I started growing lots of different varieties of tomatoes, a tomato leaf was just a leaf! Now it is RL, PL, wilty, droopey, rugose or variegated....and the more I learn, the more I realize how little I know. Dawn

It may grow past the damage. Or it may not. I personally would eat the fruit they produce--others may have a different opinion--but the badly damaged ones may not produce fruit or only produce a small amount, and it may be stunted. The brown spot on the tomato in the first picture looks like damage from rubbing against the cage. Such damage is no big deal unless a mold or something takes the opportunity to start rotting the fruit or it attracts the attention of a pest. EDIT: For future, maybe you can put your plants somewhere else on your property. If not, maybe you can talk to your neighbor and come to some kind of agreement or you can offer to pull his weeds by hand/hire a neighborhood kid to pull his weeds by hand or something, depending on what problem he's trying to solve.

Rain checking/weather checking leading to black shoulder. Not a well understood problem. I've been seeing a lot of people report it this year, though. Bad if you're a market grower, but if you're growing for home use, it's just an aesthetic issue. It's not zippering. Zippering is covered on that link as well and has a very distinctive look and a different cause than checking.

I have three pepper plants, two scorpion opera (Trinidad and moruga) and one ghost pepper plant. One of the scorpions and the ghost pepper seem to be turning yellow and are dropping their blooms. My other scorpion is doing fantastic. They all get watered the same, get about 12 hours of sunlight, and are seeing temperatures from 55 F to 90 F, depending on the day or night (I live in central Texas). Any idea what’s going on? I can’t decide if it’s a nutrient deficiency or nitrate toxicity, or maybe it’s something else entirely. This pepper plant is the one doing good. This one is the other scorpion, which has some obvious yellowing. This is my ghost pepper, which seems to be doing better than the other scorpion, but still doesn’t seem to be doing as well as the scorpion in the first picture. Here’s a picture of all three of them, with the ”healthiest“ one farthest on the right, with significantly greener leaves. On a side note, does anyone know why the leaves are somewhat bumpy and crinkled on all of them?
